Description Queen st. Brisbane. '07.

Emo culture is on the recess... transforming, so i've been told, into "indie".

we'll miss you.

i'm starting my documentation of them as of this photo.

'blad x-pan, 45/4 at about 8, 1/500th. delta 3200 in dd-x.

I should give delta 400 another shot. i know what i'm doing more than I used to...

Those kids must really love hungry jacks, they seem to flock outside its doors day after day. It must be the source of their power. Nice shot of an iconic Brisbane scene.

i found it a characteristic of the group... focusing on the clothing, the major unifying thing they have..

90% chance i know those people. :[

emo isn't changing into indie. they're just scenekids. they move with what is popular. at the moment it's hardcore music.

Hell, 10 years ago they were "goths". Same look, same attitude - give or take - so I figure the transition to Indy won't make much difference other than a brand new label for them to loudly proclaim doesn't apply to them. Hooray for teenage angst!!

Nice detail in the shot for such a high ISO, any chance of a bigger image though?

ps I'm the dude from Ted's the other week who was waiting on the 50mm1.4, just fyi.

well *i* really will shed a tear. i just want to hug them all! so they're irritating and congregate in the middle of thoroughfares and sneer at you for no apparent reason. so they refuse to admit that they're really emos and will point at someone identically dressed and say "i'm not an emo, THAT'S an emo". so they are ridiculously exclusive and a group of marginalised people who marginalise others.... i still love them.

and gosh, indie kids are going to have to find some new way to distinguish themselves from others. poor things.

"we'll miss you"... nah not really
x-pan, sounds familiar. One of the photographers from Evo might have been having a rant about it at one point.

Still cool shot. I wonder what the collective noun for a group of Emos actually is...

bern can't see the use of the blad for street.

lame.

the emo progression is rather interesting... so now that emo is transforming into indie.. what are all the indie kids the emo kids made fun of going to do?

Well, I have a tough time hiding my SLR. I look like having a tail sticking out of my bottom.

better a tail than something more phallic in nature.

always wanted a blad x with the 30 for street work, but only 5.6 on the wide end if memory serves. great angle for this composition though. how did you actually get the image digitally? cause it fills the space of two neg frames right? I guess you need a doubly wide neg carrier to print? No idea how you'd scan it though. Love the tonal range of the clothing, all the shadows and highlights meld together nicely. I wanna see it bigger to catch that awsome delta grain!

Zenhead In reply to Kathumane [2007-02-07 02:26:29 +0000 UTC]

45/4 is enough for street, and the 30 is a) hard to come by, and b) more $$$ than the body and the 45/4 combined.

i used my flatbed which also does negs... just manually adjusted the frame.
