Finally got something completed within 2 hours... I actually just wanted to practice doing eyes from a cat image I found on google, but I ended up painting the whole face. Meh.Related content

First of all I have to say: When I saw the preview of this I thought this was a photo ^^

Also I like how you made the whiskers, some of them could have been a little bit longer but that's up to you. The hais look like real hairs, I think it's really hard to achieve that e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="
Also I like how you added the lights in the left, it makes the picture more intense, the BG doesn't look boring regarding the fact that it's black. I agree with this critique, mostly the whiskers! Both my my kitties' whiskers are much longer, unless they fell out or got cut somehow.

The eye is the only thing I saw it as all right.
The anatomy is just copied from a photo so it's not so hard to make the lines and that kind of stuff.

You mean it looks like I was drawing from an image? I said that in the description... "wanted to practice doing eyes from a cat image I found on google". This image to be exact. Once I had the picture oriented in the position I liked best, I used the grid method to sketch it out and then I painted. So technically yes, it IS copied from a photo... If I were painting a photo realistic image of you, I'd also use a picture for reference.

Are you trying to imply that I have traced an image, or that you found this to be such a simple picture that anyone could do it? Can you paint like this? If you TRACED a picture (which I haven't), could you paint any better? If it's so easy, why don't you take a crack at it? ^_^

My drawing style is not realistic but if it was I won't trace, anyway, I just said that is easy to do this for anyone because is just copied from an image, so please don't try.
Also, if you were just practising, just don't submit this, if you did it by your self without any image reference it's ok, but looking at this I see that is not art is just a traced image.

I worked pretty hard on this piece and I'm pleased with it. I posted it here for my friends to see, and to get some CONSTRUCTIVE feedback on my painting techniques... Not to be accused of tracing.
I understand you're only 13 so maybe you just haven't learned manners yet, but you should really work on that. I also hope that as you mature artistically, you'll learn how to use reference images to your advantage in developing your skills, rather than seeing it as cheating... because I'm pretty sure it would help you. Just ask an art teacher.
As for my picture? It's not something I'd sell to someone (if I ever wanted to sell ANY of my work... though I don't) since I used the entire composition of an existing photograph (NOT traced), but it was excellent practice -regardless of how 'easy' YOU see it to be- and I was impressed with myself enough to share it with others.
So anyway... be nice, have fun, and have a nice life, kid. Good luck with your own artistic adventures. *thumbs up*

Don't take it as a compliment, whenever you use a reference image just try to draw something different, not just the same exact picture.
I'm 13, but I'm pretty sure I have enough manners or whatever you say, you don't understand what I'm saying and that I'm smaller than you (not sure if I'm) doesn't give you the power for making compliments to yourself and making me feel like I have the worst art in here.
I've been in more than one art class, never liked them, I like to make my OWN work and not to trace or copy a picture from someone.
Hope you can understand, my English is still horrible.

I do wish I could be 5yrs old though... I'd do anything to be a healthy little kid again instead of dealing with my illness as an adult. I had so much more energy back then... *sigh* I'm flattered that you find me so interesting that you can't seem to stay away... I knew you liked my art and wanted to be buddies!

You weren't too harsh at all! I really appreciate the time you took to critique this for me, so thank you very much. I often find myself spending FAR too long stressing over little details until I'm tired of looking at a piece, so I've started giving myself a time limit. It really helps because I don't have time to nit pick anymore and I actually get things done, lol.
Fur is... tedious and complicated for me... lol. I definitely have to work on that! Thank you again for your kind critique!
