A local company always puts on the Nutcracker yearly. These were taken in the very early 1980s in Wichita Falls TX. All dancers are clients of the Pal Ballet. This was taken during the final stage rehearsal, no retakes allowed. That is to say, the next performance would be before the audience, and no cameras would be permitted. This was also taken under available light, so as to not distract the dancers with a flash. It is absolutely the best dance shot I've ever taken.Related content

No, all the msgs hid were a duplication of the response. No need to keep rereading the same response,eh? I was trying to respond to everyone and visit all their sites, and at a certain point, cut and paste became a necessity! But then I realized it was showing up over and over again on my page...so. No, very happy with everyone's responses, and totally blown away and overwhelmed. I still haven't answered and responded in kind to everyone! I don't know whether to thank you or SHOOT YOU! (Just kidding!) BTW, one of my mottos is that everything I shoot lives. Sometimes in infamy.
Seriously, thank you so much! It is encouraging to suddenly find such an overwhelming positive reaction to my work. It is truly a once in a lifetime shot, and almost as if I were on the outside of it looking in, but I am most grateful.

Lovely shot. It would be nice if you put your own watermark there somewhere, for online viewing purposes. It's people like you who get ripped off so easily. 
Water marks from dA only work when full viewed. I make my own that can't be cloned out.

Thank you, my friend. While I was working at the paper I got this idea to do the Nutcracker, and started attending their rehearsals. I got 1 chance to do this when they were in full costume and sets, without flash. I used Tri-X 400 and may have pushed it to 800 or 1200. Hand held. THIS was my absolute favorite photo from that most memorable day. They used several of the photos for many years in their television advertisements for the Nutcracker, and I was most honored. The Pals were amazing people and true patriarchs of ballet in Wichita Falls. I was just thrilled to have been given such leeway where I could come up with these shots. Thank you again for the feature! I thought you would enjoy knowing a little of the history of this photo, shot in 1980.

Dance photography is amazingly difficult (as a dancer and photographer, I've had problems on both sides). Great capture, especially considering you were using available light (and theatres etc can have terrible lighting for photos). Well done, you have every right to be proud, its a great shot.
