I think I get the metaphor, or rather the symbolism. The picture illustrates his distrust in people other than himself and when he tried to let someone else in (as a kid) they only hurt him and tried to kill him. The sand illustrates the shining and assassins sent by his own father to kill him and him inside of the protective shell is meant to symbolize that he wants to protect only himself.

Is it the power to turn humans into sand, or the power to create animated human figures out of sand? Because I personally don't think the latter is out of the question with Gaara.

Gaara and Michael Myers could be twins! In fact, he's who I thought it was until I took a closer look, It's very good. And congratulations on the DD for this. It's very well deserving of this status.

I don't know what the metaphor is because I don't know who Gaara is, but this picture is really cool. I love the ancient warriors surrounding him the most. Very cool layout and theme.

While Gaaras face and body posture look a tid bit awkward, the sand and the characters in it look amazing! Solid and yet fluid, a perfect mold of the two!

Looks pretty amazing. I like how you took a more realistic approach instead of anime/manga. I also really like how you made the 'sandpeople', and how they are being merged into the swirling movement that is characteristic for this piece of art.
