Description
Name: Wheatly
Pony Type: Unicorn
Gender: Male
Age: Young Adult
Cutie mark: three wheat stalks
Talent: Making bread
Occupation: Wheatly is a baker. While he sometimes still works in the fields with his family, harvesting wheat, oats, and maize, his specialty has become making bread from wheat. He owns a bakery where he sells many assortments of bread and other products from his family's farm.
Personality:
Wheatly is a diligent pony. This is not to say that he necessarily enjoys working, but he knows his place in the world and he works hard to deliver only the best for his community. He does not stop until the work is done. Wheatly is patient with his work and will never rush a good job and does not mind spending many hours to make sure something is done to the best of his ability. He is patient with other ponies as well, being very non judgmental and he basically never gets angry.
Wheatly is very peaceful. He is happiest when he is settled down in front of his house, watching the birds and enjoying the sounds of the day. He is a content pony who needs only a roof, some bread, and some friends in order to lead a full life. Being so peaceful comes at a price, however, for Wheatly is very passive. If he is mistreated then he will rarely protest or fight back. He will almost always just endure.
Loyalty is very important to Wheatly, and will do anything for a friend. He would work himself to death to please someone he cares about, and if a favor is asked of him he will go above and beyond as best he can to exceed expectations. He is known for being generous and kind. He is also very honest and has a very difficult time lying. He is visibly uncomfortable having to tell a difficult truth but at the end of the day he would rather do the right thing than cheat or take short cuts.
Wheatly has harbored some insecurities from his past, especially his past appearance (he was a overweight as a child), and is often shy around others until he is comfortable. He is not one to start a conversation, nor is he particularly good at carrying one. However, once he is comfortable with you he can be more of a talker.
Best Quality: Wheatly's patience and generosity. He gets along with most everyone and will always lend a hoof to those who need one. He is a pony that everyone can feel comfortable and safe with.
Worst Quality: Passive. Wheatly doesn't know how to stand up for himself, nor is he good at being his own advocate.
Likes:
- Early afternoon: this sunny time of day is when Wheatly takes his mid-day break and relaxes in the beautiful sunlight or takes walks through town to get little errands done or visit friends
- Birds: Wheatly loves the sound of bird call and the way that birds can fly through the sky in all different colors.
- Singing: Not that you’ll ever hear it! Wheatly is much too shy to show anyone, but he’s got quite a set of pipes on him (which runs in the family). When he’s out doing work in the field he enjoys singing to make the long day more enjoyable. He and his family all used to sing songs together as they would harvest their grain.
- Food: This trait was most prominent in his colt years, but even now this large pony can eat! He loves the feeling of a full stomach after a long day of hard work.
- Sleep: There are few things more pleasurable to Wheatly than a good night’s sleep. He loves snuggling up in his bed and resting his tired muscles and mind.
- Breadmaking: Obviously, since this is his job. Wheatly loves his job. It is truly an art, and one he has mastered. The smell of fresh bread is his favorite smell in the world.
- Spring and fall: These times of year are his favorite because it is not too hot or cold. They are the perfect temperature for doing work in the field.
- Helping: Wheatly loves the feeling of knowing he has helped someone be happier. He is always the first pony to lend a hand, and loves using his strength or magic to do anything that is asked of him.
- Rain: Rain brings a good harvest. Wheatly loves the calm sound and the smell and his favorite thing to do is sit on the porch and watch it come down, even more enjoyable when he has a good friend to enjoy it with.
- Water: Wheatly loves to swim! He’s not the best swimmer, but he loves the feeling of the cool water on his coat anyway.
- Pretty mares: Yeah… he’s a sucker for a pretty face. But he will always admire from afar, too shy to approach one unless they are his friend
Dislikes:
- Being tired: Nothing pulls back Wheatly’s mood like being tired. Feeling sluggish and tired means he can’t work as well, which is never okay for this unicorn.
- Attention: Due to his insecurities, Wheatly hates being in the spotlight. Even praise makes him uncomfortable if it is too excessive. He just doesn’t know how to react and would much rather be behind the scenes unnoticed. A job well done is its own reward.
- Conflict: Hard feelings and sadness always makes this boy unhappy. He enjoys a peaceful and happy existence, and anything less gets him stressed and unhappy.
- Excitement: Many ponies like dancing and loud music and bunches of people around. Wheatly has never enjoyed that. He would much rather spend time with a few good friends during a quiet evening of talking, playing games, or eating out.
- Dirty things: For someone who spends so much time outside, Wheatly dislikes being dirty. His shop, his fur, and his home are all spotless. They are modest, but clean. The first thing he does after a long day is bathe.
- Strong Flavours and Smells: Wheatly dislikes anything overwhelming, including to his senses. He likes light, modest smells and tastes. Bread and butter, oatmeal, maybe banana bread or a bread-like cake. But anything too sweet, sour, or bitter and he is not a fan. He dislikes spices in any amount over than a small sprinkle.
Hobbies: Luckily for Wheatly, his favorite hobby is his job, making bread. He likes spending the time to make something beautiful and delicious, and he enjoys sharing his creations with his friends. He also enjoys bird watching, and will sometimes go out on weekends just to find birds he has not seen before. Almost all the books in his house are about different types of birds. He also enjoys swimming.
History:
Wheatly grew up on his family's farm in a tiny house in a tiny town. He was naturally a pudgy colt and lived an innocent life idolizing his brother Clyde , playing with his best friend Floret (one of the only other foals in town), and doting on his little sister [Maizey]. But Wheatly was always a little different than anyone else in his family. He was a unicorn. He never knew much about his magic, but he was luck that at least Floret was a unicorn as well.Once he got older Floret moved away, which signaled a new stage in Wheatly’s life. Clyde moved away, which meant that Wheatly’s parents needed help on the farm. He began to work hard and long days to help out in the fields. He hated the work and he missed his carefree life with his friend and trying to get the hang of his unicorn magic since so much labor hardly allowed for time to practice and explore the possibilities. By the time he was a teenager he was no longer pudgy, but just large. He was extremely large and strong for a unicorn, but he hardly knew anything about his magic. Since Floret had been in her school they had remained penpals and she would often write to him lessons she had learned about her magic. Wheatly would try his best to interpret them, but it was difficult. However, with time, he began to get mediocre skills with his magic and was able to use it to help his parents with the harvest.
Wheatly got his cutie mark one day in his parent’s bakery. The family had just gotten a huge order from Canterlot for the next day, but they did not nearly have enough time to finish the order! Wheatly at the time still did not know how to use his magic very well. After they has finished cutting the wheat they moved to making bread out of it. But everything was going much too slowly. Suddenly everything began to glow as Wheatly’s magic began to speed up the process ten fold. After they had completed the order just in time and had a very satisfied customer, Wheatly got his cutie mark.
It was when Wheatly was a young adult that he decided to move away from home to expand his parents' business and bring in more money. He moved to the populous town of Neighberry where his brother and nephew live, as well as his best friend Floret, and opened a bakery in the town. He and his parents pooled the money they make together at the end of the day and they have risen above their past poverty in the years since Wheatly left.
