Russian women in war are the true heroes, their sacrifices and the unjust social stigma inflicted onto them coming back from the tranches are often untold. Svetlana Alexievich wrote explicitly about Russian women in war in her outstanding book 'War's Unwomanly Face.' It is a collection of tales and it comprises perhaps some of the most tragic and heartbreaking tales i've ever read.

This is an intriguing piece. It invokes both a 'daw' and slightly depressed reaction at the same time. Even a soldier has a heart, and will find time to help an innocent.
