It's a little bit hard to look at because it's bright. But otherwise, I like it!

I appreciate your honesty. It rendered a lot darker than this but when I tried to bring out details in photoshop the ring got too bright. After all the post I find it too noisy for my liking as well.

Try playing around with the weights of the xforms (assuming you haven't already). You'll want to bring the weight of the one that controls the ring down if it's too bright, and the weights of the other ones up. Then you can go in and play around with brightness settings, or you can change the gradient to make it brighter using the built-in tools. Lowering the gamma will make it less noisy, but brighter and more vibrant. Sometimes if you make it less noisy, it won't get too noisy in post.

Depending on how you brightened it, you can go back in and change the original fractal again in post, but a different way this time. It looks to me like you maybe simply brightened it? Or did you use the levels tool? It's hard for me to tell. If you didn't use the levels, you can go back and try it. Of course, you're a photographer, so you probably already thought of that.

I hope I'm writing clearly enough to convey good advice to you, I'm a little brain-fried at the moment. If you would feel comfortable and want help, I could take a look at the parameters and try to clarify. Your call though, I'm just a busybody who tries to be overly helpful.

Oh I definitely messed around a lot with the weight settings I'm a little obsessive about it now that I know how much of a diff it makes. But now that I've loaded this thing up again I see that a +.1 diff makes the ring a lot less intense.
I see my gamma setting is 4 and brightness is 20. The straight render had very low contrast so maybe my choice of gradient wasn't ideal either? So many factors to consider right?

Most of the probs with the final image are due to my photoshop editing though! I used curves to brighten a bit, then a slight saturation boost to make the colours punchier, which can make existing noise a lot worse :/ But the kicker is that I also used Neatimage which removes noise but apparently I was too conservative with it
