Description is it just me, or does she look PISSED about my presence?

I had to crawl through a gravel parking lot on my belly to get this close... but it was worth it.

there is a picture I have up of another bird like this who was running in circles around me while i was getting this shot. check that one out too.

Wow, you went through a lot to get this photo, but I think it was worth it! You got a great sharp shot of this killdeer. Did you know that they try to distract predators from their nest by pretending to have a broken wing? Then when the predator follows the "easier" food item away from the nest, the killdeer stops the sham and flies away! That's probably what the other bird you saw was doing

Ha, which bird ISN'T pissed off? Especially when it has young underneath? This is a great shot, but I bet if you were any closer, h/she would likely of taken action to defend the nest.

Even Chickadees at their nest are scary!

The other one was most likely trying to protect the nest. Was it trying to play injured? I think killdeer are one of the species that do that to lure "predators" away from the nest.

Killdeer is pretty unique in that trait aspect. Their more common ways of playing injured is a 'broken wing' act which is actually pretty cute when you're the one he is trying to fool. I never been awfully close to a Killdeer nest before but I do have a hunch what tricks one will play depends how close you are to the nest.

I remember seeing this at one point when I was in grade school. I was too young to really appreciate it (it was the whole class and the teacher was telling us what was going on). I would love to see it how, with camera in hand
