Fourth illustration for chapter 7 of Conflicted Omens. After discovering they both play, Fell and Caudery sit down to a game of chess. It took me a while to get the poses right for this. Please ignore the chess pieces themselves, as I know they aren’t entirely accurate. The drawing was inspired by this piece of art which I only just found again:

When Newt went on his break, the pair sat down at the chess board. It was a close game, a very close game. Caudery had surprised Fell by being very good at it, particularly with forking and pinning. He was very good at strategy, including knowing the Ruy López and the Sicilian Defense.

But so was Fell.
