This is another entry for contest "There and Back Again" and ! Well, I've imagined this scene immediately after watching "The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies" ...*SPOILER*
Why Thranduil waste time talking about his inexistent wife? Your son nearly died and he wants your approval, HUG HIM STUPID ELF!!!!!!

I love this so much. And I admire the attitude, in any fandom, of "fixing it with fanwork when the canon disappointed." I know how artwork and stories like this can sometimes help the scenarios we wished for "feel a little more real," once we get them "down on paper" like this. And all the more so when others enjoy them then, as well.

I think, that when Thranduil said what he did about Legolas' mother loving him, he was too afraid to say it directly to his son. So it could quite possibly have been an indirect way of telling Legolas that he loved him because Thranduil had already lost everything else that he loved. He had had so much love, that when he lost everything (but his son) he was too terrified to love like that ever again.
Well, just my opinion. But that's what I felt he was trying to really say behind that

It should have been like this. However at same time Thranduil not dense he knows he doesnt deserve to be forgiven. Its hard to explain but i think for first time in his long life since his wife death he sees the world with open eyes again and sees that things are not as great with legolas as he wished and he accepts it.

here is something you could do next if your interested just a suggestion.
right before Bilbo leaves for home King Thranduil wish him safe travel on his way home and Bilbo says I Am Sorry Everything Thorin I Just Wish He Could Be Here but then Taurial who is with Thranduil says Of Course He Is Not Because Thraduil Let him Die Along With His Kin and Bilbo is stunned and said You What How Could You Do That and then Bilbo says Thorin Was Right About You and then he reaches in his pocket and takes out the gems Thranduil wanted and he did not know Bilbo had them and Bilbo says I Was Going To Gives These To You After Hearing How Much you Wanted But Since You Let Thorin Die and Prove Him Right You Do Not Deserve These then Bilbo throws the gems off a cliff or in a river which is right next to him and Thranduil and Thranduil is stunned and says No How Could You and Bilbo says You Should Have Thought That Before Letting Another King Die You Coward Your No King and Bilbo storms off in disgust.

On a more serious note- I 've read somewhere that Elves aren't very... touchy, let's say. Remember the Haldir scene with Aragorn? that's one from the movies.
I don't quite know if it would be more flexible between father and son. In the movies their relationship is quite strained, so I'd expect that they wouldn't be as close as a father-and-son.

I have too many feels about them. I mean WHY NOT SHOW US THIS FUCKING SCENE AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP INSTEAD OF LEGOLAS AND TAURIEL. YOU'RE NOT DIRECTING TWILIGHT PETER JACKSON. THERE IS NO NEED FOR LOVE TRIANGLE. NOT EVERY MOVIE NEEDS TWO HANDSOME DUDES FIGHTING OVER A CHICK(who was good in second movie but in BOFA became sort of damsel in distress for Kili and Legolas, her two suitors to save.) like really this would be so much better, and much better than Alfrid and with no nonsense about Aragorn. He is not North. He is in Rivendell and since Battle of Five armies happens in 2941 and Aragorn was born in 2931 he is just ten years old. So could we please have father/son meaningful cute moment. Apparently not, because Hollywood needs angst and every relationship that is not romantic or sexual has to be wrecked.

Eh, I don't know much about Aragorn Lore - but it might be (I could be wrong) that he is still with the northen folk-people-ranger dudes. See, he could still be with his father and mother before this - then the attack happens, blah blah, and then his mother takes him to Rivendell.

Yes, exactley, there is NO NEED FOT THAT TRIANGLE!!!!! I don't like it! And Alfrid... maybe one or two senes were funny, but when I saw the third scene I was already tired!!!! I'm still asking why they choose to show all that Alfrid's and Tauriel's scenes, and Fili's and Kili's death scene was liquidated in such a hurry!!!!
Well, maybe Thranduil is ALSO a prophet, about Aragorn... maybe he has a palantir! XD

I always feel that when he says "Your mother loved you..." he doesn't just speak about her. He speaks for himself as well, because he loves his son "more than anyone. More than life." too.
