I don't know the novel, but the character is really well-done. I think what really drew me in was that hair! Not sure if the little streaks of blue and yellow in it are meant to be dyed strands or an effect of the lighting, but you really nailed the dreds. After that, the eyes -- so intense! The only thing I miss from this is a sense of where he is during this shot. The background is textured and done in wonderful complimentary colors, but it gives no clues as to his surroundings, either.
