Nix faced the arena, his heart pounding. Sure, he had trained for this for a.... okay, so it wasn't a long
while, but he had trained. Even the enormous Corinthian Charger, Korhaan, took the time to teach him some
important battle moves... not to mention demonstrate them and their effectiveness on himself. That was how
to learn, the old warhorse had said.... and he ought to know what he was talking about.

Not only all that, but he had also taken him al over the ranch, showing him how the buffalo fought, as well as
the deer and even the camels.... and drilled him in every move.

The old horse said he was ready.... but was he? All he knew was the ranch... the people and the animals there,
nothing else. It was... strange... being away from home.... away from everything he knew.

And he was young. That fact alone got many sneers turned his way. His... accent... didn't help either. He had
taken to not speaking at all to the other ballators there just to keep more problems away.

He was torn from his thoughts when the gates opened and he was bidden to step into the ring... which he did,
albeit slowly.... taking time to examine his challenger. His ears laid back at the look his opponent was giving him,
again, the same look many had given him.

"You?!" The other broke into a laugh as he circled, apparently completely unworried about this match, "A mere
colt?! Is that who they send in here to fight? Ha!" Ossa's canines clicked as he got into position, "Draft or not,
I'll toss you clean out of the ring... show them to give me more of a challenge than an overgrown rank foal."

And with that, he lunged. Nix whirled quickly, knocking Ossa off balance with his huge hindquarters like Kor had
taught him, then dancing out of the way when his opponent's hind came back to return the favor.

It wasn't long before Ossa realized that this rank foal wasn't quite as rank as he first thought....

Did that change his attitude though? Nope. If anything, it made it worse.

When indecent words started issuing out of the older stallion's mouth... as well a foul name directed at the
young competitor... Nix started to gain his own foul temper. Horses shouldn't talk like that... Kor would have
flattened him if he had...

OUCH!

While Nix had been stewing in his own mind, Ossa caught the momentary loss of concentration and went for
Nix's legs, succeeding in tripping him up... though he did get back to his feet in a flash.

The colt was through with the older stallion. As in... way through. The hillbilly youngster had taken all the
flak he could handle.... not to mention remembered a certain fighting technique. And if they could do
it... why not him?

Making the first move for once, Nix lunged across the arena, rearing up against the other... who reared up
as well. For a long while, they danced on their hinds, each trying to get the other underneath their sharp
hooves.... and all the while Malus Ossa continued to make his comments.

Finally, the larger, if slower, size of the draft came in handy. Nix at long last finally managed to arch his
heavy head and neck over the stallion, trapping one of Ossa's forelegs with his own as he dropped.

Ossa, at the last moment, realized with near-horror what the younger colt planned, and tried to pull away.

But it was to late.

His head was firmly trapped beneath the very bulk he had been berating.

And finally, Nix spoke, exposing his incredibly.... Southerny... accent, "Iah seaid not ta talk ta me like that!
Naow say 'uncle, r' say g'night!"
