Description My worst title yet.

I spent my whole Sunday and some today on this. Sadly I had to look at pictures of dead, beached cuties in order to try and copy that shiny effect as best as I could.

Also, water surfaces are still so very very hard.

But I'm still quite happy with it.

I love how reflective the water surface is!!! the technique you used makes it look very soft, which I adore. (porpoise is also cute!!)

Sorry for the late reply (got chained up by a busy schedule the past week and a half). Thanks a bunch for the kind words!

Hoooolee moly what is it with everyone suddenly posting incredible pieces of cetacean art at the same time??
This is very very pretty, I love how shiny everything looks, from the surface of the ocean to the porpoise themselves. Oh and shucks about your 'wonky anatomy' - this is highly recognisable as a Harbour porp and they're looking great I'm very impressed with the splashes too. Did you use a brush for that? If so, very well made use of those brushes that are normally quite hard to make look 'natural'. Good work on the reflections too, not many people realise/implement that they often show a different angle of the animal.
Very nice!

Thanks! Yeah, I once grabbed a brush pack that contained those splashes. I'd have to look up which one since I've really hoarded brushes during the years (and end up not using 99% of them), but I'm fairly sure I just googled splash brush and it came up. I do play with opacity, rotating the brush and erasing to try and make it look more natural. I wish I could do it myself completely, and it does appear kinda artificial, but at the moment this still looks better than what I can do by hand.

When I work with traditional paint I simply whack with the paintbrush towards my canvas to get splashes and it actually doesn't look half bad. Takes a bit of aiming, luck and lots of cleaning, though.

Yeah, it's a harbour porpoise. That is, that's what it's supposed to be. My anatomy skills are still quite wonky here and there. I just tell myself it's my "art style".

I might try a vaquita one day.

Now I feel weird because I've been busy with porpoise lately too. c;

Good job btw! The water is A+ as well as that shininess. Glad to see that you're active lately, love your works!
