She was a lot of fun to draw. I like the way she turned out. The sword was the hardest part. I hate drawing curved swords. Yet I keep doing it.

Up you ally eh? Cool. This was a fun one to draw. Kind of Celtic, kind of manga, a touch of Frazetta. Not to be a perv about my own work but I really liked the way her legs turned out. Usually I just hate what I draw and I'm absolutely sick of it by the time I post it. But not this one.

I love how you did the sword. It looks just like Valeria's scimitar from Conan the Barbarian. Excellent, keep it up!

staino In reply to Chromeshadow [2011-06-25 02:37:12 +0000 UTC]

Yes. Now that I think of it this character is very much like Valeria. I was so in love with her when I first saw that movie.

Love both. Costumes are very different. The legs are an improvement in this version. What don't you like about curved swords?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

staino In reply to BazNevermore [2011-06-01 02:56:14 +0000 UTC]

Well years and years ago I tried playing D&D with a friend. It was at a time when I was not convinced yet that fantasy was cool. I was more of a sci-fi guy. So I made a Ranger cuz' I thought Robin Hood was cool. During the course of the game I some how ended up with this magic scimitar. So when I got around to drawing my character everybody was like "Why does Robin Hood have Aladdin's sword?" It pissed me off to no end! (True Story)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BazNevermore In reply to staino [2011-06-01 21:43:26 +0000 UTC]

... and of course there was Rocket Robin Hood so naturally that would fill your Sci-fi need and make the transition to fantasy less painful.

Rangers rock... and they can use scimitars... lame ass group to make fun of your girly curved sword... uhm I mean your manly weapon of death. (reminds me of The Thirteenth Warrior)

I also like Aladdin. They were just jealous.

You know what I like about her the most?
Not showing boobs to the world, ei; Getting cuts on the parts that hurt most.

No Chain mail Bikini! Thank you!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

staino In reply to CheskaMouse [2011-06-01 02:47:57 +0000 UTC]

Wow. I now really have an urge to draw a chain mail battle bikini.
No but thanks for the compliment. Really! I also agree it has to be good to have the, uh, you know that front part, protected in a fight.

Keydan [2011-05-31 18:26:32 +0000 UTC]

She looks a bit too civilized to be a barbarian. Needs more rugged textures, scars, makeshift armor with pelts, brutalish sword... you know! She looks more like a regular highland fighter

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

staino In reply to Keydan [2011-06-01 02:42:59 +0000 UTC]

Your absolutely right, she does look like a civilized highland fighter. Often I give these drawing very basic names. I describe the picture in the broadest terms I can. This is so that if someone uses the Deviantart search engine to find a drawing they can impute something basic like "female barbarian" or "elf ranger" and come across one of my drawing. Hopefully. I mean that's the idea any way. For the most part I don't care what the title is. I just want people to see my drawing.

Masterful, as usual. I really want to see all of that sheath...what I can see is totally epic. You and your beautiful detailing. Keep uploading!

staino In reply to inkeverlasting [2011-05-30 04:03:44 +0000 UTC]

Your too kind!
At one point I did a tracing of the blade to compare next to the sheath. I have re-drawn the sword so many times I'm not sure it would actually fit now.
I personally like the fur trim, makes me think she bought it from a nomadic trader from Mongolia.

zomg, Staino... You always make the very best comic/D&D style artwork I've ever seen! (And why do so many of your characters look like some of mine/my friends? :d HE'S WATCHING US ROLE PLAY!)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

staino In reply to ToAtoneArt [2011-05-30 04:17:23 +0000 UTC]

Why do so many of my drawings look like your characters and those of your friends?
Well, I just try to draw the characters I would like to play in a game or read about in a book. You just have good taste.
Or I have bad taste and so do you. Oh no!!!
I'm. Just. Kidding.
Your a sweet-heart to say such nice things bout my drawings.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ToAtoneArt In reply to staino [2011-05-30 15:47:52 +0000 UTC]

XD Well, thanks for saying we have good taste. I think I'll take the compliment and run. *me gusto*
And you know, that's a really great way to go about art. Especially of this type. I mean, it makes it so you're drawing 'every character' (like I'm every woman type every character. lol), as well as doing them well, and in a way people cane relate to. It's very impressive.

Even thoguh it's a big WIP, you've inspired me to post that image I told you about that I was going to use some of yours as bases. Wish me luck! And the best of luck spreading your AWESOME art around dA.

staino In reply to Treyos [2011-05-28 13:24:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, The original was your standard "Beastmaster" "Conan the Barbarian" outfit. The main reason for the re-do was I hated her legs. I would say they didn't change much but everything else did!
