USS Azimuth engaging Coalition of Ares forces, Battle of Comet EcoStar, December 26, 2154.

Had a long break from any sort of 3D modelling, got pretty bogged down with academics over the last few months. Been working on this gal since august on and off, kinda hit an artist block and couldn't find the motivation to finish it. Mostly got hung up on the main turrets, and once I was able to get them figured out i was able to crank the rest out.

USS Azimuth was a technology demonstrator outfitted by the MIAT corporation in order to test a number of experimental systems. She and her sister Zenith were originally commissioned by the Italian navy, but were quickly sold off due to budget cuts in the late 2140's. They were acquired by MIAT soon after and were pretty much rebuilt from the ground up in order to accommodate modular equipment packages. in the following years the two sisters were used to test mirrored laser cannons (a fixed emitter's beam projected out of a rotatable turret), advanced long range sensors, prototype fusion reactors, variable geometry warp drives (allows for directional adjustments during warp), and antimatter cannons. The cannons development was filled with issues, and it was the only unsuccessful device tested. The antimatter generator was brand new technology copied off a derelict alien vessel and the design itself was easy enough to copy, but the theories that made it function were poorly understood so in a sense engineers could never 'tune' it correctly. The beam produced by the device had a miserable range of 250km which may sound far, but contemporary lasers around this time were reaching 700,000 km+ and rail guns could hit targets hours away. After eight years the range couldn't be improved and the design was to be scrapped, but war broke out in the solar system in 2154, forcing the ship into active service. Nether of the two ships were anywhere near combat ready, and Zenith had to be cannibalized for parts to complete Azimuth. It received both antimatter cannon turrets with the intent of giving it some functionality, but they could not be made functional before it was deployed. It was a part of the Lunar Defense Force for several months before the force was more or less wiped out in a fight with a fleet from Ceres. From there the ship linked up with the Polish OST For most of the war, the ship relied on its laser cannons and large missile battery, with a few crackpot engineers being able to fix the turrets towards the end of the war, only using them during the battle of EcoStar where it was involved in a 6,000 ship point blank brawl where the cannons were extremely effective, the ship claiming 43 kills.
