Description
Superbattleship ESS-01 Elysium Mons delivering a devastating broadside to a Pescalin Class at close range, resulting in the rapid destruction of the ship.
The Pescalin and Elysium classes represent two very different building ideologies, and despite being approximately the same size, perform very differently
The Pescalin was intended to be rapidly produced and somewhat expendable and as a result, lacked specific features. It had a mostly nonexistent point-defense system, leaving it vulnerable to small craft and missiles. It also had surprisingly weak shields, with builders instead designing it for bow-on engagements where its angular design and reflective paint made it near invulnerable to laser and kinetic fire. It also relied heavily on its Dark Matter Manipulation system to maneuver, and the problem with that is there has to be a certain density of dark matter to produce thrust. Low density areas leave the ship sluggish (like trying to fly a prop plane at high altitude) as it has to rely on conventional propulsion.
The Elysium on the other hand was designed to take in and dish out massive amounts of punishment. Humanity could only afford three so they were overbuilt as much as possible to make them able to punch well above their weight. It was coated in weapons emplacements and thick armor, but lacked maneuverability; just turning around took the better part of a day.
In this particular engagement, the Pescalin attempts to flank around the Elysium and use its maneuverability to quickly flip around and take out its engines. However, the Pescalin lacks a substantial broadside with most of its weapons on its bow and ventral sides. The Elysium on the other hand has an extremely powerful broadside with over a hundred laser cannons, meaning it is quickly able to dispatch the Pescalin. The drawback to this is firing this many weapons at once quickly overheats the ship and it has to enter a cool down phase with minimal weapons usage in order to avoid internal damage.
