Description This thing happened to me this morning: I've been a little stressed and tired, so I had a little accident involving me bumping into the car in front of me. My fault entirely. No damaged to the cars or people, just a little scratch on the bumper of the car in front of me. I'm thinking "OMG!! but thank goodness it was only a light bump, no one got hurt!" Then the woman got out of the car, and started shouting abuse at me. "What the f do you think you're doing! What the f is wrong with you!! blah blah.. f**k this, f**k that, f**k you!" and I am standing there close to tears repeated saying "I'm sorry, it was my mistake, no excuse.. so sorry.. "

Then it got me thinking.. Why are we so abusive towards people who made a mistake, have done something wrong, even if they're remorseful? When we are a victim, does it give us right to be abusive and nasty?

It makes me feel sad..

First off, I'm terribly sorry for what happened to you. It could've happened due to a number of reasons: perhaps the woman had been having a bad day so the incident unfortunately served to exacerbate her, but that's still no excuse to vent so harshly. Especially when the other party is clearly sorry.

Painful as the experience was, I suppose you could say a bright side to it would be that it essentially led you to something quite beautiful. I don't know if you meant for there to be a lot to this, but I'm getting a whole bunch of meaning from this and it's endlessly fascinating. The red streaks are like the red of his ledger, all the bloodshed he has caused... the blue streaks not only speak of intense sorrow, but they also speak of his Jotun heritage. The bloodshed and his frost giant identity rain down on him, reminiscent of tears, drenching him with anguish and a whole slew of complicated emotions. I can't even begin to explain how much this resonates with me. Everything works incredibly well together. Kudos on creating such a lovely, powerful piece!

Aww.. I love your interpretation of this piece.. it's beautiful.   I honestly didn't think too much about those things when I painted the piece.  I just let my emotions take over and chose colours that represented that.     Thank you so much for your kind and very insightful words.

Awww you poor thing! I don't understand how people can be so cruel! I mean it was obvious you didn't mean any harm!...I think people really just get scared and fear is easily turned to anger...
this piece is absolutly astonishing! I love how the smoothness of the blue and red dripping down his face is contrasted by the brush texture on his face! A masterpiece! God bless!

Thank you so much for your kind words.
I think you're right about people being scared..  a lot of people also seem to think that they'll only get upper hand of the situation if they're angry and agressive..
At least I got this artwork out of the ordeal, so I am happy.

You are welcome! I'm glad you could see through them to their weakness and be able rise above any feelings of anger to be a much stronger individual! You are special! (although I'm sure you know that) Anyway, it is true you were able to channel your emotional experience into this beautiful and powerful piece which, honestly is what makes art so amazing!   Good work!

Thank you my friend for saying that I'm special

I am such a fangirl in a way that quite often I channel my emotions to some fictional character or another..  currently it's Loki quite a lot of times..  I am not sure if it's healthy or not, but then it really helps me get over negative emotions this way..

This is beautiful in a haunting way.. And I totally agree with you- most people feel self-justified when they lash out at people who have wronged them, even if those who wronged them are feeling awful.. But I guess you should be proud of yourself because even though that person was lashing out, you didn't retaliate. =w= Beautiful work- as always. :3

There are many people who are filled with anger, and stress, and fear, and low self-esteem. Those people look for a chance to vent all that crap and take advantage of every "not perfect" moment in their lives to dump on others. It is not about you, it is about them. You should try not to take it personally and try to feel sorry for them. They have no peace and little true happiness inside them.

LOVE the Loki pic!

I was in a minor car accident last year, although the damage was a bit more extensive, and the person I hit shouted expletives at me, and was putting me down despite the fact I was apologizing profusely. I remember saying something along the lines of "you don't have to be so mean" and he stopped. I ended up taking the blame, though and had to pay a fine.

But it is sad. And it makes me sad. And now I'm not even entirely sure the accident was my fault.

Beautiful picture, by the way.

aww.. it seems to me that people who're pushy and angry more often get what they want, than people who are more peacefully inclined. maybe that's another reason why there are so many angry people.. I am so sorry to hear your ordeal.. it's even worse that the accident may not even have been your fault!!!

The worst (or perhaps the best) part about it is that the person whose car I hit was the father of one of my co-workers. My co-worker says he's a horrible person and he deserved it. But, like I said, he *did* stop when I told him he didn't have to be so mean. Maybe I should feel sorry for him, maybe I shouldn't. His son certainly doesn't. But it still hurt at the time.

I never really thought about how hard it is to live with mistakes until someone held me accountable for mine. Mistakes that, although were entirely my fault, were also the result of extreme emotional duress and the other person certainly wasn't helping me out at all, despite being my "friend". Then when I made said mistakes, he thought I should be entirely blamed for everything that happened as a result, and made me feel like trash. And for a long time I lived with that and hated myself, then one day I realized -- I a human being, and the fact that I make mistakes has nothing to do with being young, or a woman. It has to do with being human, and if he can't forgive me for actions that I'm learning from, actively learning from, then he's not really a good friend.
So we should be responsible for our actions (and it seems like you were), but not feel like we should carry their burden around forever. We make mistakes so we can learn, trial and error. Too many people don't own up to their own mistakes, and too many more don't learn from them.

And this is soooo pretty, I thought it was actual paint at first! The colors and tones are so gorgeous

Awww... come here you Thank you so much for sharing your story. It must have been an aweful experience. At least mine happened with a complete stranger, but things that happen with a friend, and them blaming you entirely, must be so hurtful to say the least.

Hope you're doing ok now, and moved on from the experience.. things like that never really disappear, leaving a bit of a scar..

TreatedAsThis In reply to slugette [2013-04-28 22:57:09 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it can scar, but the lessons can be good - People who don't love you despite your faults aren't exactly the best friends! I think it's okay to carry those scars with you as long as they help you remember not to repeat your mistakes (as much as possible )

Sad story... It's awful when problems fall from the sky since the early morning.
But thanks to that occasion this picture was created, and it's great. Colours seem very symbolic to me: blue is the colour of his frost-giant-skin, red is the blood, coming out the broken heart, and this turquoise makes me think of cold distant worlds where Loki had been before coming to Earth in Avengers movie. The warm orange seems to be a tiny fire, reminding of home and comfort, but too small to warm him, lost and hurt. Beautiful work.

slugette In reply to JessicaAddams [2013-04-28 21:45:04 +0000 UTC]

*problems fall from the sky* indeed. Colours actually happened by me choosing them almost at random at the beginning.. I am happy that it worked out well.
