I forgot about this! Did this for CHOW #183 a couple weeks ago over at conceptart.org. The guidline was to depict a girl around 12-16 years old who finds/found a dragon egg, for the idea of a young adult novel cover. I pretty much did what I probably would've been into when I was that age. Which was like Star Wars, LotR, Sabriel, etc... It was fun participating and interesting to try and finish this within a week (during Christmas time). Rushed it a bit to finish it by the deadline but I'm still pretty happy with it. It's got a great illustrationy feel to it. She looks young and determined without being too grown up, if that makes sense? I dig the colours

Amazing cover, not too much detail and the firy hair and sword in a snowy landscape make it even more interesting. Strong use of colours.
The only thing that makes me wonder is the lack of shoes/boots. In dutch we have this saying for people who are afraid that they are heroes on socks, but I can't see her 'chicken out'

wow really cool! and bg is always a WIN since i never do one lol. I think the dragon egg's tangent makes it hard to see bc its almost covering her torso w/o a lot of overlap but other than that rly cool, draw more!!

and ya i never rly fix anything when ppl crit my stuff too, esp. if its finished, its just more for future ref

Love the coloring on this one, especially her hair. Also, the contrast between the bluish-grey snow and the reds really helps bring the picture to life.
