Description So... Who are these girl-adventurers? Does anyone know??

I'm not going to bed until someone recognizes them and says their names!!

Anyone?

...

Blah. I lied. I'm going to bed. I'm not virtuous.

From the ancient Ultima series: Jaana the Druid, Katrina the Shepherd, Julia the Tinker and Mariah the Mage. I guess all fans have died of old age. Except me, but we tieflings live long...

u not just old, u ancient! A real ANTEDILUVIAN!

Have to admit, the first Ultima game I ever played was Ultima VIII. Though kinda sucky, it inspired me to buy VII and whoa, I luv'd that game a lot. It was hard to get back to IV or V after that, but VI was okay.

IX was not.

Just been playing the Bard's Tale 1&2 remasters... But Ultima IV and V really need to be redone!

Remake them all, I say! The First Age of Darkness, The Revenge of the Enchantress, Exodus, Quest of the Avatar, Warriors of Destiny, The False Prophet, The Stygian Abyss, The Black Gate, Labyrinth of Worlds, The Serpent Isle, Pagan and (especially) Ascension!

That's a good list of classic games. Apart from Pagan - that can die in a fire and be lost to time. I never understood why my lovely female Avatar was now a guy with a pot on his head

That said, you can play as female characters in Bard's Tale now right from the start, so I'd be okay with a remastered version where you could play your female Avatar.Β

I'd add Savage Empire and Martian Dreams, as these were some of the best games I've ever played. Deep plots, great characterisation, romance, exploration, fighting... These games were so good.Β

There's many fans like us who feel the modern games lack the care and investment of these early ones.Β  Bard's Tale remake sold well, so let's hope we see the Ultima classics. Maybe Wizardry too, that was a good series. David Bradley said so much with his beautiful prose, we didn't need fancy graphics.Β

The only Ultima game I ever played was Ultima Underworld 2, and from these girls, I believe only Julia made an appearance.

Still, very cool picture. Makes me wish the old Ultima games would get a modern remake.

Yes, Julia was there and like everyone else, she did very little. "Avatar, go and save us. We'll wait here."

OMG Ultima! Don't know how I came across this. Β this was my favorite series in world (went from IV to the end, thoughΒ in my head the series ended with VII part 2) Β I was the portrait artist on the U5 remake.

This is amazing

Thank you.

One day, soon, the real Ultima VII successor appears and bears the name "Ultima". It might be the day when the cows are flying in the Frozen Hell, but it comes.

One of my early roommates picked up the first Ultima game for the commodore64 and I played it a bit. Later on picked up my own C64 and several of the middle ones: 3-6. Never finished any of them because I couldn't figure out HOW what with there being so many micro-quests to complete. But deep in my gallery is my own interpretations of the eight virtues.

Ultima IV was the one I played the most. I think that's the one that first introduced the girls here. I once had a plan to run a pencil and paper game set in my own homebrew for that world adding races other than humans that could be played, which is why nearly all of the Virtues in my series are not human.

I know you didn't originally design them, but lemme just say THANK YOU for making their costumes reasonable! Β It seems like every fantasy female character I see nowadays is wearing something so skimpy that if she were stop posing and start walking, everything would fall off.

Also, the fact that they're not going to freeze to death the next time a chilly breeze blows by is a plus.

Mariah had red hair in VI, brown in VII, blond in IX. Jaana had white hair in VI, blond in VII, brown in IX. Julia: red in VI, blond in VII, brown in UW2, blond again in IX. It's the Britannian hair-dyeing there.

RobDBlackwolf [2015-02-24 15:34:10 +0000 UTC]

Just one little nitpick... Shouldn't Mariah's dress not be more blueish? I mean Jaana is in green which is the color of justice, Katrina is dark and black was the color of humility, and Julia has orange, which is sacrifice. But Mariah is purple, which is the color of honor, not honesty. But yeah, just a nitpick from good ol' Darkfist Dragon.
