The Northern Lights with the Mjelle Mountains no II !The first : [link]
Awesome show ! The Auroras was so intense, i messed up a lot of pictures, so i was just like, eh what do i now !!!
I set 20 seconds, 500 ISO, and E/V +4,3
Which worked quite good actually !I got the colour and light
And you can also see that some of the lines in the aurora gives greater light and it`s more intense !Well words can`t describe this awesome light show from our Nature ! I`m just happy to share to you all here on deviantART

Lightroom is used for adding a watermark and removing grain and other dirt from my camera.. noise and such
I have used my standard optic for these pictures which is a 18-200 with highest F at F3.5 :/ but im going to buy a wide angle with F2.8 or higher
and i would be grateful for hints and tips the optic must suit a Nikon my D300s is a DX. Thanx again !

Just wondering, when you look at the Aurora with your eyes, does the colours look fainter then in the photo?

Well yes it does ! This was from one of my first shoots
The auroras is very weak actually, normally you don`t see that much colours, but i`ve seen red colours with my eye and then the activity is extreme !
The colours of the auroras is overkilled with the ISO and Shutter of the camera, offcourse also how your`e camera setup is on colour.
In afermath of shooting auroras i am having a great focus on getting the colour right, (not like this picture)

I see! The aurora is very weak that is why you need longer exposure!
And the D300s is not very good for long exposure because of the noise
D700 should be better ^^

i do know that, but my D300s could do 30 seconds at ISO 1600 !
And i have a good noise program,
Well not actually weak 
8 seconds at ISO 640 is equal to 30 seconds of ISO 640.
but offcourse at 8 seconds you capture more of the northern lights movement up there
And at 30 seconds, you could easly overexpose parts of the lights which changes it`s activity while your`e sensor is reading it. There`s a lot of challenges shooting this phenomen !
And indeed the FX frame is awesome on ISO, I`m saving up for the D800 !

I see. It's quite a challenge to capture the lights. The exposure time depends on how strong and how much movement there are right?

It doesn`t turn out to be very noisy ! It`s okey, say it`s my limit.
I have done some at 2000 ISO with noise reduction on !
It is a great challenge to capture these lights !
The exposure time depends on how you want it
Offcourse longer shutter and higher ISO on weak shows, and high ISO and a faster shutter at vibrant shows with much movement !

Wow to me ISO 2000 is quite high. Personally I can't shoot higher than ISO 800 on D300s
