Description After escaping from the Under Earth, Vylera chose not to return to the Telaren Empire. Instead, she followed Raegeth Storm Warden to the tribes who lived in the forests. There she learned how to Cast Light, a crime in the Empire she had once been a part of. The more she used her Light, the more her hair changed color. By the time she finally returned to the Empire, she had to keep her hair bound with an enchanted silk to disguise her hair.Β

Art, story, characters, etc. are mine.Β

I don't know if I said this before but your art-style goes very well with the fantastical themes of your story. To me it gives a sort of "historical" feeling to it - as if these are records and portrayals from mystical ages of a distant land that are still told. ^_^ They also give me a fantastic/magical RPG sort of feeling, which is the genre of history and game that I grew up with when I was a kid and even now influences my views on fiction a lot!

Also why is it that casting Light is a crime? Is it something that comes from tradition or are there consequences to the world if someone does it? Regardless of the motive, her hair is beaautifully done. Reminds me of the beautiful tones of amber with the light of embers.

Thank you very much! It's funny you should say that, because you're exactly right; the story that I'm telling with my traditional pieces is much older than the ones I tell with the digital art ones. The traditional characters I draw are part of a race, the Telaren, which divide and become the Rieldaren and Brentaren found in my later stories, which I've been drawing digitally.

As far as light Casting goes, it's something that all of the Telaren have the ability to do. They used to be tribal people who were blessed by their Creator (whom they call the Giver) with the ability to cast Light, or magic. As the tribes grew in power, some broke away from their nomadic ways and built a kingdom, which later expanded and became a belligerent empire. As they became more "civilized", Light casting became something associated with the "savage" tribal people, causing the "civilized" Telaren to become fearful of their own abilities. They outlawed the use of Light, and soon anyone who used it, even by accident, was exiled as a savage and a danger to the empire.Β

Feels nice to hear that my intuition sort of still works every now and then.Β Β  Β It's also good to see this diversity in kins and races, because it can give the history a lot of general directions to branch into as it unfolds. Doing this sort of expanding lore for the characters seen within pays off in the sense that the world feels like there's something new about its inhabitants to be found at every turn. ^_^
And about light Casting... Huh, that's actually kind of a bitter irony - to think they would come to treat a blessing from their very Creator like something to be seen as primitive or even barbarian.
That sounds like a suffocating law to deal with, for their kind - I think it sounds almost like prohibiting one another from being in close proximity to their own origin.

Yup! Again, that's how the tribes people feel.
