Description
The City of Alfdreim, by the 2280 a.a.H.

After the Firs War of the Power, humans blamed elves for being the ones opening the gates and surrendering the city, taking in consideration later attempts of the Dark legion to turn the elves of the Elferie of Old Aelfsdreim to their cause.

While there were some anti-elven riots, due the Alliance of the Whide Axis, between the Five Kingdoms of the Northwest and thehigh elven Venerable Empire of the Whide Axis, there were actually some laws that relaxed the grip over non-human population... but in other parts of the realm of Degoland, to escape the rising anti-non-human sentiment, more non-humans migrated, either to the closer Aelfdreim, or to the new Northern Marches, to the Polforian States of the Outregam, or the new elven principality of Erenian, beyond the traditional borders of the Northwestern Kingdoms, in the Barlans.

With the settlement of Erenian further south, and the expanded trade to central Aels, the importance of Aelfdreim as a trade hub increased, there were more resources to reinforce the defences of the city with a new curtain stone wall, encircling the whole city... which will be tested.

As Degoland entered in a new war against the kingdom of Sargos, lead by Martin the Conqueror, Aelfdreim was sieged, which was completed with the fluvial Sargonic navy cutting down the river.

As the siege was over two months, and scarcity began to show in the city, Martin was able to infilitrate or buy some spies -some claim them to have been elven-, who told about the ruined state of the keep -destroyed by the retreating Dark Legion during the First War of the power, and never rebuilt-, Martin the Conqueror concentrated his attacks on the ruins of the old keep.

Taking the highest elevation, he threatened to rain fire on the city if it didn't surrendered... which it did.

Martin the Conqueror, thankful for taking the city intact, only ordered the payment of a ransom for his royal arks and his soldiers, but didn't razed the city. As well, he not only respected the Town Council, but wanting to gain the support of Aelfdreim, he gave a new charter to the city, freeing it from the Baron and his taxes -replaced by Sargonic taxes, but a continued boom as centre of trade. -.

As he proceeded to conquer the rest of Degoland, he decided to strengthen Sargonic military presence, and built a new Keep -the King's Keep-, from which Sargos extended their long hand over Hanat.

Being a river town on the shores of the Osorio, as the King instated the River Guard, they were given Aelfdreim -Alfdreim in Sargonic-, who will garrison the King's Keep and make use of the port.

While Martin the Conqueror was known to be somewhat bening towards the grey elves of his reign, it wasn't the case of the River Guard -who saw themselves as a shield of mankind against barbarian non-humans-, and they reimposed the old laws, banning once more elves from owning or living in the farmlands, forcing elves and half-elves living outside of the Old city back in the Elferie of Old Aelfdreim, and banning dwarves and other non-humans from living within the city walls.

Dwarven traders, who wanted to continue their profits -and in secret agreement with the town council, who didn't approved some of the harsher measures of the River Guard-, used the newly imposed armed peace of King Martin the Conqueror and the River Guard... setting an open market outside of the city walls, on the bridge, which will come to be known as the Dwarfbridge.

Neat! I love maps... especially ones showing cities and how they grow.
One of my favorite things to do now is explore older cities on google map's 3d view.

Some cool ones to check out, Valetta in Malta, and the Amalfi coast in Italy.
(For cool cliffs and fortresses)
