Description This took me just about forever...buuut I am pleased with how it came out. This is Honnou she is not the nicest kitty around. In fact she sorta sounds like this most of the time: [link]

I appologize, but the tail keeps throwing me off. I'm about to ask something and only because i love folklore and mythology. So am curious about this.

Isn't a Bakeneko supposed to have 2 tails? Are there cases when that isn't the what happens?

That aside, i love this style, you did amazingly!

That would be a nekomata, their tail splits when they reach 100 years old. And they usually specialize in necromancy. A bakeneko is a straight up goblin cat. They're old but not quite close to 100 years. They tend to eat people then shape shift into them to take their place. But they do a bad job of it since their behavior tends to be that of a stray cat. That and the stink of the bones they hide under the floorboards. Also thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed!

Wow. After I saw this image it hasn't gone out of my mind. o__o I've been making a bachelor's thesis for anthropology on transforming animals and kami and whenever I run into bakeneko this springs into my mind and I feel like I want to know MORE about it. I did think so when I first saw this image. That tells it's an excellent piece of illustration! I love the ukiyoe-style as well and the bushy tail is beaaautiful!

Wow thank you! I'm thrilled you like it so much~ I'm a big fan of asian folklore myself and I try to reference some of the old school scroll paintings when I do pieces like these. Good luck with your thesis, you picked an awesome subject to research.

Thehe, it's really well done, the colours are in perfect balance! And thanks, I'm going to present my thesis this Thursday to the class. I think Japanese folklore and kami are just mind-boggling.

Thanks! I used my cat Lucius as reference for the pattern. He's such a sweet boy I could roll him over and check his tummy for the proper patterning and everything~<3
