I was going to hold this post a little longer to avoid spoilers, but the internet is already spoiling you all, so there you have it.My official redesign of Mondo Gecko for IDW's TMNT debuted this month on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #38 .
Although Nickelodeon have enjoyed this detail, they thought that Mondo's t-shirtΒ satirical stamps of "Rex Pistols" and "Lizfits" were too close from their original counter parts. In the book you will notice that I've managed to keep that idea with a "Reptile Tendencies" t-shirt. Also his skate board is less equipped in this story arc, but I think it will build up for this final version as the story unfolds.

I Like your version way better than the one that's going to be in the show. That version seems to be based on the Leaf-Tailed Gecko. Either way, great work!

This is so damn amazing. A great revision that melds original and new. I really hope they let you do Ace Duck, Mutagen Man, Panda Khan, and King Lionheart. XD

I love this design.... from everything, to the street fashion & cocky expression.... perfect... EXCEPT...one tiny teeny thing... just a teeny thing... the HAIR... I am sorry, but hair? I mean, it is not the worst or anything, I am sure it is cool & all that... just hair on a lizard? I mean I guess if dinosaurs had feathers then I guess it could be like feather hair on his head... maybe ... or kept on form his mutation then yeah, I can see hair on his head... Just at first I see it & I think, wow, a lizard with hair... So... maybe it is possible... like some sort of feather hair on his head? Oh well... other than that, 95% of it is still pretty wicked. Awesome for you!

I understand you point. You are not first one to bring that to my attention.
Maybe, if I was to create an anthropomorphic lizard character from scratch I probably wouldn't go with any kind of hair for it.

I admit it that the feathers instead of hair it's a good idea. It didn't occur to me at the time, but it would definitely work for the looks and would still resemble the hair of the original. Well, living and learning

Cool how he's based off of an actual lizard. A lot of mutant Lizards(created characters from tmnt fans) are just amazingly patterned in their skin, but not with an actual species. But this Mondo is! Radical!

Thank you for doing this character Justice. I always wished he had a bigger role in the old toon, and the Mighty Mutanimals were some of my favorite comics growing up. Can't wait to see what the amazing story has in store for this guy. The IDW run is far and away the vision of the Turtles comic readers were waiting for, but might not have known it.

Your welcome, I remember when I was a kid, my brother had the action figure of Mondo Gecko, I think he still have it. It brings me memories from our wonderful childhood. I show the design to him and he love it. I have to thank you and the artists that keep it working to amaze us with your work of our childhood heroes.

Awesome! Love Mondo Gecko and it's awesome to see him back. Your design his really cool. My only complaint is the legs. They seem way too small to support his body. Other than that, he's excellent!

I think his tail does the rest of the job of balancing and support.
But honestly I enjoy this kind of disproportion in stylized anatomies. Take Mister Incredible for example, that is a great design.
