Description

Sage of Null: The Trunk

Moving very, very, very slowly out of the ever-green and ever-ending foliage of the forest, he arrived at the open space that would soon be filled with an abundance of sunlight. Within the ring of trees, around twenty deer strides in diameter, he planted his roots deep into the soft dirt that was still cold and wet with dews. The dirt was as familiar and soothing as a long-forgotten childhood memory.

He inhaled the fresh air of the chilly innocence of dawn, and couldn't stop himself from shaking his branches and leaves in excitement. Yet, he moved gently, so as not to wake the Flowers up before due time. No matter how many hundreds of times he had done the coming ritual, he still feel the thrilling excitement shot through his body at this moment. He straightened his big, dark, moldy body and raised his flowers towards the sky. The day had started its valse with colorful light ribbons from the newborn sun. The crisp morning air flowed into his vessel and vibrated across his hollow parts, unleashing a humming sound that was both calm and enlivening to the surrounding trees. And with that, he sent a refreshing wave of shiver throughout the forest, shaking off the night dews and waking it up. It was a greeting from a good old friend, as old as the oldest trees in this ancient forest, who always brought joys and merry gifts. And the forest remembered.

The Sage knew that the flowers would soon blossom in full and that the bees, the butterflies, and other insects would come. They'd then carry the sweet nectar far away and bear changes to the plants and trees of the forest. Yet the flowers would die shortly when the sun reached its highest position, and they wouldn't return in 336 years. Until then, he'd have enough time to visit and hear the stories of all the plants and trees in the next forest and cultivate them into the living source for the flowers. With that image in mind, he hummed and slowly dove into a dream. He'd see the result when he woke up in the evening. But first, he'd need to take his only sleep in three centuries to come. The flowers would bloom, and he couldn't wait to start again.
