Sometimes the smallest tattoos are the most meaningful, and these simple characters depict a lot.Β

Love it. I have Bipolar and I feel the same way. I don't draw when I'm feeling good.

I have bipolar too, and whilst I do often draw when I feel good, I only write when I'm depressed, and I only compose music when I'm depressed. Then people complain that all my poems/songs are too depressing and I'm like "Oh, I wonder why??"

I saw your Narration of Manic Depression film...very accurate depiction of bipolar disorder. I especially like how you included the split screen to signify separate episodes.

So True! Art never does come from happiness (at least not from direct happiness)

I'm depressed right now, and most of my art comes from that depression.

Awesome artwork!

love it. just like many who have commented i am also bipolar. i have a molecule of seratonin tattooed on the back of my neck because i spent a good chunk of my life denying the diagnosis and finally after years came to terms with it and realized it is where alot of my creativity comes from and now i embrace it as part of me. lots of people hide it so seeing someone else who has embraced it is wonderful.

I always do art when I am manic,

I know many people feel connected with their mental illness but why would you get this tattooed on you? I would never want my illness to define me. I am just interested on your take thats all. Best wishes

actually we need both for art.
depression gives the inspiration and mania is the way to get it out.

this is profound. so simple and so violently expressive. I couldn't agree more. all my best work is induced by a depressive state, i just perfect it while I am manic

I faved this a while ago, a long while ago, and recently saw it again while going through my faves. Just thought I'd leave you a comment about how amazing this is, and not only is it a great tattoo idea, but it's an amazing picture. Reading through the few comments on this photo, I realize we're not alone, either. People may not understand our intense mood swings, but we do. Besides, they need to realize that without our manic and depression, they wouldn't have art!

I've been sitting here, for a few hours, falling deeper and deeper into the realization that bipolar disorder affects me severely. In tears, I was looking for something, anything to possibly cure it. Then, I saw this photo, and it reminded me that if it weren't for my abnormality, my creativity and mind would be affected as well. We wouldn't want that, would we.

This is true.

Thank you, for reminding me of how true it is.
