EDIT: It's supposed to say "Sword" Form, not gun form. Sorry for the blooper...People don't seem to realize just how HUGE her weapon really is. The blade alone is 3 1/2 hands long! (I say hands, because in order to correctly make your cosplay prop proportionate to YOUR body, you shouldn't use measurements like inches or centimeters. The ratios don't work that way). When the Blaze Edge is fully extended in it's Sword form, it is roughly 3 shoulder widths long! That's shoulder height on me! Lightning's weapon is not to be taken lightly just because she's a woman.

After trying to understand how this gunblade was put together, I gave up and decided to just trace the whole darn thing. I understand pieces of cosplay better once I've drawn them. However, this time I decided to do it digitally. I made another layer and traced above the pictures, then I erased the background leaving me with just he outlines of the weapon. This way, there's no shine or reflections or shadows distracting my brain from concieving it's true shapes and sizes.
This is by far Square Enix's most complex weapon design I've seen. Topping Rosso the Crimons' dual bladed gun, Cloud's ACC sword(s), and I dare say Noctis's new motor sword. Possible to make? yes. SE makes things with functionality in mind, since the have to animate everything. It won't be easy, but this brings me closer to making a functioning, fully articulated transforming Blaze Edge prop weapon.
Yes. I'm ambitious. Good thing i have Lee helping me. o.o; Doing this alone with my meager skills would indeed make it impossible.

I spent a lot of time doing these. Probably a good 10+ hours for all of them combined? I did it over a number of weeks, so it seems like it wasn't as much, but it was. Hence, the watermark. I don't want someone claiming that they were the ones who provided the traces. XP

Has anyone else noticed the one major design flaw? Unless that blade is frickin' damn unbreakable (and light), the entire thing is only held on by two thin shafts of metal due to the first pin-shaped slot.

Googled her blaze edge and found your traced pictures of her weapon. That's a good load of effort being put into this o.o without the colour, hopefully it'll be slightly clearer in its mechanics. I have the same ambition as you regarding blaze edge: a fully functioning, transforming gunblade xD;
adding all 3 to my faves for future ref. Thanks for sharing these pictures (and that small snippet on measuring the weapon to body). All the best in cosplaying Lightning! >:3
