It's made out of clay, and I "throw" it on a pottery wheel.

Not stupid. I've seen a technique where you throw a clay bottle on the wheel, then blow it up like a glass balloon. Glass blowing and clay throwing have many things in common.

I use a type of clay from Laguna Clay Co. called Soldate 60. For my type of work, it has good thermal expansion/contraction properties and also a structural rigidity that I like. The trick, I think, is to push a design or idea to the point of failure, and then back off a little.

Sorry, I should have been more specific in the description. The top is made out of clay also, but I make a glaze that's copper and cobalt based...so I guess technically, it's both clay and metal.
