When the earthquake happened, I was in school, and me and my classmates were sitting at the table; so I decided to shake the table with my legs, then I stopped shaking it cause everyone got annoyed at me. Then literally like 1 second later, the table started shaking again and everyone was like 'omg hivie stop' and I told them it wasn't me and they didn't believe me until one of the teachers shouted 'EARTHQUAKE!!'

And Lord of the Rings. I'm sure most (if not all) Tolkein fans were worried. But yeah, NZ needs more exposure.

I haven't forgotten New Zealand, Japan, or Libya............That's right my Kiwi Bro, don't you dare forget to pray for the Libyan People either as they need it too..........Mother Mary, St Michael The Archangel, St Florian, and St Jude are all in the house for everyone......................We just need to remember to ask 'em all for help.......................And that's the closest I get to preaching as, I'm no evangelical...........................Doesn't matter what the faith of your choice is either.

It's easy for people to only worry about things that happen in their own country - but seriously, on twitter, when the ChCh quake hit, NZ took longer to become a trending topic and it took longer for the celebrities to get onboard than it did with the Japan quake. Although, perhaps the tsunami is what caused people to notice - I mean, it was going to affect more than just Japan for starters, and the video footage made a heck of a lot of difference (there weren't any in NZ and haiti - at least, not as much as what Japan had). Still, Japan is STILL a trending topic (NZ got half a day's notice) .. and same with Bieber.
People just don't care.

I agreed! I didn't see people caring that much for New Zealand, Haiti or even Brasil, like they're caring for Japan now =.='''

i felt sad about new zealand to, maybe even more because the houses are less sturdy there then the ones in japan (but japan did have a tsunami or whatever it was afterwards)

Haiti is the one that didn't have earthquake-proof buildings. NZ's DID, and that's why its so devastating (plus that was the second major earthquake in 6 months, not to mention all the aftershocks in between). Japan was only really affected by the tsunami.

But in saying that it was technically, affected by the earthquake. It probably did do damage!

I myself am a resident of one of the worst hit areas of the 6.3 quake and trust me, Japan is much worse of then we are and i believe they need all the support they can get.
Our government isn't stupid, they're leaving plenty of people behind to look after our city, they're not just going to leave us hanging!

But the international aid is the issue - NZ doesn't have the same economy as Japan, it's costing us a fortune in comparison. We need that aid just as much. Although in saying this, Japan is a mess... yikes.

Trust me, everything is fine, i think you've gone a little over the top.
We're in recovery, they're in disaster.
If anything more happens here, people will most defiantly be back here to look after us.

thanks for this, as a kiwi i cant help but worry our international support will disappear. I am proud that even in the state we are in our government has still sent search and rescue workers to japan.

Same here; I had no idea about New Zealand until people started commenting, "Hey, why all the love for Japan? New Zealand's in tons of trouble, too." And now I feel like a terrible person for not knowing. (And my spellcheck is even telling me that "Zealand" is incorrect. What the hell, Firefox. )
The world really is going through a ton of crap right now.

I feel terrible about not knowing too. With the internet and everything, we should have access to that knowledge, but I guess it depends on whether it's put out there or not...

Well it's the hype. The media only want to show what will get them views - and the Japan quake is more interesting to the world than the NZ one - maybe because of the scary footage that captures the events. It looks more devastating than the NZ one. And in all fairness, the death toll is expected to be around 4 times as bad.
Bieber!? Nuuuuuuuuu
I like his music, and he's cute, but he left a bad impression on me when he came to NZ. He's a little git!
