Backstory//Summary:
Shadow is a rising 6 year old stallion, his sexually mature and ready to cover the females at the farm. He came to Elm Grove from a stud farm abroad, we bought him as a 3 year old, but only bought him to England this year. He is from very strong competition bloodlines, both his Sire and Dam were top winning jumpers during their career. He was the last foal to be born from his mother, who sadly passed away last year. This is one of the factors to why we have him as a rising 6 year old. Shadow was very attached to his mother, and spent most of his time with her. He was in the stall next to where his mother passe during the night. It took many attempts to take him from the stable block and onto the transport vehicle, he did not want to leave his mother's side. After the 5 hour road journey, Shadow was unloaded at Elm Grove Stud Farm.
Since being at Elm Grove, Shadow has certainly come into his own, though can be quite nervous when routines change or a new horse comes to the farm. After his initial shyness, Shadow's curiosity will get the better of him and he will want to interact with the horse.
He is a very forward going horse and rarely needs encouragement from his rider. Only advanced jockeys are permitted to ride him as he can be quite strong in the mouth. He is only allowed to be handled by male grooms, as he appears to be very unresponsive to females and on a few occasions barged them into his stall.
Shadow mainly does flat work and hacking out on his own or with one of the geldings he shares his field with. He has no interest in jumping, even though he is pretty good, and can easily do 5ft+. However training sessions will usually end with him bucking and rearing trying to dislodge his rider. It was then decided that he only be shown in-hand and do flat work.
Shadow has not yet fathered any foals, we hope during his time at Elm Grove, he will cover our mares and produce lots of beautiful fillies and colts.
The only other horses we have at the farm, are a blue roan mare and her colt at foot.
Shadow has not been allowed interaction with them just yet, as the foal is still quite young and we are allowing mother and son time to bond.
When the foal is older and stronger, Shadow will be introduced to them.
