Ahhhhhhhh some of my favorite childhood kitty catsTHIS SHOW from the day it aired to the day it mysteriously vanished has always stuck in my head like superglue. I started rewatching it Monday and forgot just how wonderfully expressive and fluid the animation is like my freaking goodness I MEAN REAL TALK A BUNCH OF THE INTRO ANIMATIONS ARE GRAVITY FALLS INTRO SMOOTH
and I found out that the show was created by the same fella who was behind Earthworm Jim and the Neverhood??? Some really crazy fun trivia- I've never looked into those series but I know a lot of them in passing and I can totally see the nuances now from the character designs and whatnot. It also turned out to be an adaptation of a graphic novel that he produced before called Gear which I never knew. :0
What's REALLY memorable for me for the awesome voice cast that it had, with my especially special favorite being Wayne Knight doing Mr Blik ;v;
Honestly I always had a hard time choosing my favorite character between Blik and Gordon, but I think Blik wins it for having one of my favorite voice actors ever behind him , he's also a black kitty which I have huge sentimental attachments for in general.
It's also been nice rewatching the show and remembering all the awesome quirks the characters have. Waffle's a total joy from all the silly and stupid timing of his jokes, Gordon's a walking lump of Scottish sweetrolls, and Blik can be a jerk but ALSO have some genuine open-hearted moments
I think this show was also the reason I got attached to a certain purple hairball from pokemon .;P Guess I have a thing for pointy ears and doofy grins
also poofy legs, always love excuses to draw poofy legs x,,D

Ahhhhhaha yeah dude! :,D I had forgotten how fun the animation work in it was by the time I made this lil bit of doodles after rewatching it, but the characters themselves have ALWAYS stuck with me and have a huge amount of charm to them

Ah man I remember this show! I always loved these characters and their wacky expressions and hilarious antics.
Ah yes! Gear. I knew about it for quite sometime but never got the chance to buy it. So yes it is adapted from it, but VERY loosely, hell, it was really going to be just a kid friendly version of the comic before the executives meddled with it.
If you expected the happy cheery stuff going on in Catscratch, well, you're not going to find any of that here. It's full of violence, swearing, and religious allegories. Shit, the novel even begins with Gordon slitting someone's throat to steal a robot.Β Also Mr. Blik was called Mr. Black. Why they changed it I do not know. And also their monster truck, to my recollection, is even called Gear.
While I have not read it. It interests me more than Catscratch. (I kinda have a thing for blood, not to mention dark premises.)
I'm familiar with Earthworm Jim and the Neverhood as well. Doug's making a spiritual successor to the Neverhood called Armikrog. It's scheduled to release on September 8th.
I even own the fighting spin-off to the Neverhood series, Boombots. While plenty of critics panned it for being boring, I personally enjoy it (hell there a lot of games I enjoy that critics hate).
Anyways Great job on these sketches Kito! The characters' zaniness is captured perfectly here! And Gengar fits in very well with them too.

I think I can get pretty quickly why they wouldn't want the name Mr. Black in a kids show on a widely watched network xD;;; Given the racist implications it could have being said out of context.
As for the rest of that, I'm very glad that I haven't looked into it much then. Since I have a very low interest for blood and grit :,P Give me fun n' light hearted wacky antics please k'thx

Haha yeah it's not for everybody (especially not kids). While I like light hearted I usually prefer dark and edgy.

Thankfully I've run across all the episodes between youtube and Kisscartoon, so even with it not being anywhere to buy I'm still able to go through and remember all the fun times the show had to offer :,,,D
Seems like I'm the only one so far that has Blik as my favorite of the 3 >X,,,,D like I said with the description though he and Gordon are extremely twisty tied for the top

I remember seeing this show being promoted on Nick, and that was right about the time when I became completely obsessed with cats in elementary school, so I thought I was gifted by God or something HAHA~ I also adored the Kracken. ;A;
I've known about the guy being behind both Earthworm Jim and this show, but when I discovered it was adapted from one his graphic novels, I was like whaaatttt. Apparently it actually has a really dark story...
bit of spoilers: like for instance, there's a fourth cat besides the three we know and love, and he dies early on or something. I've yet to read the thing though.

LITERALLY JUST NOW I had gotten up to the 2nd Kracken episode in my rewatching of the show. :,,D It was such a sweet episode my goodness a;lkdfsand (also it was funny how ALL the krackens were voiced by Maurice LaMarche x,D not just one) So I totally remember now what ya mean by liking him xD
It was sooooooooooooooooooo fun drawing all these guys out like I only dreamed of being able to do when it was actually airing ;w;Β
And yeah that REALLY caught me off guard to learn about. :0 I thought it was a standalone thing this whole time

One sort of trick I ended up starting to do is just to do a curve for the front- but then not define the back x,D Instead I'll just draw the fur/spikes right away and that seems to work in making them feel more filled out
