Description
This was formerly the "Art Nouveau Prototype Lamp". Now it's an Art Nouveau wall vase.The stainless bowl will hold water and a spikey plate called a "frog"for cuttings and blooms.The spiral post is a 3/4" solid square forged steel bar.
I just received a commission for three of these from my current one-man-show at Risk Press Gallery in Sebastopol,Ca.

It's very difficult forging,6' long,and tapered from the center out to both ends.I made a jig for the top spiral because it's bent "the hard way" on the diamond so that the bowl can rest on a flat side of the square stock all the way round.
My partner did a marathon forging session yesterday and into the night to make three of these puppies...I'm exhausted but happy.Today I'll fabricate the wall brackets,and hopefully present them to the client tomorrow...

The organic quality of the forged spiral,it's sclae and it's texture juxtaposed with the clean even lines of the stainless bowl are visually satisfying.I know my old man would have grooved on this piece...

Hey Sub,
This is one of my favorite forms,finally somebody(with bucks) saw it as I do and have given me the opportunity to develop the theme...It's an incredible amount of work to accomplish and maintain that fluid delicate form throughout,but ultimately satisfying when it's achieved...
I'm so blessed that my forging partner sees it as do as well and is willing to share his blacksmiths shop with its trip hammers,forges and all the ancillary tools to manifest this complicated form.Now the parts get put together in my studio for the final presentation...
