Description Tate Modern Chimney Stack.

More Postcards from LondonSome little while ago, I posted some postcard shots from a trip to London. I present some more such shots from another sojourn last weekend, this time with a short Journal.
London can be usefully thought of an extensive set of small villages, North and South of the River Thames, that over the centuries have coalesced into the present urban giant. Nevertheless, each area retains remnants of its past, both in physical aspects and long historical documentary records. One such area is Southwark, on the South Bank. There are still buildings here that go back to the 1600s with my first snap showing a coaching inn, The George built in 1676, and still run as a pub by our National Trust. The building lies in what is called locally a Yard, and the Yard would have contained stables and workshops that provisioned the stage coaches that ran from this location. There were several such Yards along what was then the main thoroughfare, Borough Road, each containing a coaching Inn. The coaches would tak

For a guy who thinks that shooting angles like this, as visually confusing, you did a wonderful job, David!

Wonderful textures captured, and of course, the perspective....One almost gets the feeling it's a path rather than an up view to a building. !!  Love this one!

That's the idea, Linda - is it a chimney stack or a path? What visual clues are necessary to decide?

Cheers

David

My very first thought was that it looked like a building, a view upward, with the sky surrounding the top portion.   But then I thought, looking at it longer, perhaps it was a path, with fog surrounding. It certainly could be one or the other.  I may have been influenced though with my first thought of the building, from viewing your other pic prior to this one, of a building with a similar perspective.
Not until I cheated - looked at your tag words, did I know for sure though.   It certainly could be both. And why I find this shot to be exceptionally well done.
The 'path' looks very much like one you would see on a concourse; with stone seating, or benches.

I'm slowly getting a glimpse, learning just how much talent goes into what a photographer does.  I would never have thought to pull something like this off. Bravo, truly, David! !

I could have manip'd in a tree or bush, then you would thought it was a path, Linda. Lots of these shots are illusions unless you know from the start. I'm always on the lookout for one that will really puzzle.

Many Thanks

David
