Description Again, not sure where I'm going with this. I'm liking the idea of these two being friends... with the shorter person doing most of the talking since Ohm doesn't talk.

OHM JUST STARES INTO YOUR SOUL.

I love working in values. As much as I love color, I like shading more since I don't have to worry about how some lighting can effect colors. I'm a lazy artist. :U that and I don't have a color scheme picked for these two hurr

Heeheee. Sho pwetty. :3

I love the lighting and sketchy effect in this. I've noticed in your work you create very cool and natural looking clothing, which includes the girl in this pic.

Lovely work. There's nothing more to say.

I vant yo draw your Ohm. Canz I draw your Ohm pwz?

I love seeing how Ohm's being developed. He's got such a snazzy design, and in combination with the shorter girl, you could probably do something really cool with them.

I'm not sure why, but I keep imagining them in some sort of Byzantine church like setting. Must be all the gold tones!

lol I think developed is a kind word since I pay him so little attention, but thanks!

So far I've been told they could be a Tibetan, Mayan, desert, and now Byzantine kind of setting. I'm enjoying rolling around in all the possibilities. :>

Ohm is amazing. You need to use him for something. Seriously. Maybe it's just the colors but my brain is putting them in the desert.

I love the crosshatching. everything's so rough and kind of dirty.

I want to but I just don't know what. Right now he's just a good doodle subject.

Desert sounds like a good setting for them. Mmm, brainfood.

I'm crazy happy with the crosshatching on these guys. I need to experiment with it more often.

We can totally brainstorm some time if you want. Or you could put him in an OCT and see what happens. It'd be a good trial run.

I like brainstorming.

Though... he has no personality... idk what I'd even do with him if he was in an OCT, as fun as the idea sounds.

I've been tinkering around with the colors, but haven't been able to settle on anything I solidly like. I am leaning toward a rusty reddish color on his clothes though.

"Your Ohm"? While I'm sure there are, do you know another Ohm wandering about nearby?

QUICK, COVER YOUR EYES!

Their designs are so..epic and original, for lack of better terms. Having only one color makes the piece better, in my opinion. I find this to be a very sweet picture of these two. Though I wonder how she deals with Ohm staring into her soul...

Awww, thanks!

lol the lack of more than one color certainly makes it easier to shade.

That's why there are such long bangs, to hide the eyes and protect the soul. XD

Has issues at times with angles with lighting

Haha maybe. I haven't really figured out a relationship for these two beyond the little one pulling Ohm around a lot. Dat one be bossy.

I do like that in photoshop I can put shading on another layer and tinker around with it. And all the layer effects makes it even more fun.

Oh? What kind of effects do you use? :/ All I tend to do is overlay....*still learning PS*

o-rlyization In reply to Usa-Wolfdog [2011-02-04 11:05:52 +0000 UTC]

I have a habit of toying around in Photoshop when I'm working. It's kinda like experimenting with any medium since they're so many different results you can get by trying new things.

On this piece I used the Linear Dodge and Overlay layers set to a 60% Opacity (I usually tinker around with the slider since it lets me get the lighting juuust right) for the shading and lighting. The lines and colors were on Normal layers, but if I'm working with pencil lines instead of digital, I'll usually color on a Multiply layer--which can make the colors look dark but you kinda learn to compensate. On top of all that, the two textures I combined on two Soft Light layers at about a 50% Opacity.

But these aren't set in stone. Again, I usually just play around by putting one effect on a layer and then adjusting it till I get what I want.

Usa-Wolfdog In reply to o-rlyization [2011-02-04 21:27:02 +0000 UTC]

Hmm...that is an interesting method. Do you normally have more then one layer of shading or lighting? I noticed in that piece it looked like you had two shading layers and one just made it a little darker or do you just use a sort of gray and then a black in a single layer? Also is there a way to add more textures into Photoshop? I know you can add some brushes that are like textures but I've found at times where the brushes weren't big enough to actually use for it, otherwise there would be a line right down the middle where you had to place it again.

I should make it into a habit of experimenting with sketches to see if I can find something I'd like C:

o-rlyization In reply to Usa-Wolfdog [2011-02-07 01:31:32 +0000 UTC]

I rarely ever use straight black or white anymore. The light layer was actually vivid red (which shows up on Garrus' suit), while the shadow layer was a dark purple (which you can sort of see on Garrus as well).

I never use brushes for textures, unless I'm trying to paint.

It kinda varies and depends on the piece. I don't really have much of a method to my madness and I usually just end up going with whatever looks good, no matter how many layers it takes. I'd definintly suggest playing around in PS or taking a look at some tutorials here on dA. Some are really good and very helpful if there's a specific look you're going for or just want to learn something new.

Ohm: *SEES THROUGH IT LIKE SUPAH MAN*

It's fun, I love dramatic lighting and sometimes soft, but I hate how when I'm shading a colored picture you have to take a few extra things into account in certain lighting.
