Halloween seems to have disappeared in my town. Contrast with what the story was, some 50 odd years ago, when I & my folks first moved here.
We moved in at the end of 1968, and I had come home from work by bus, the following Halloween. To my surprise, my father met me at the bus stop -and told me he was escorting me home -as there had been incidents in town.
It was Cabbage Night and trees had been T.P.'ed , windows had been shaving creamed, and eggs & even pumpkins had been thrown ! When two incidents -where people had been seriously injured by thrown missiles - occurred, the town government took measures and finally the halloween business was stopped.
It seems that even trick-or-treating has vanished.
Before Halloween got phased out, I recall somebody at a bus stop was holding a white object. I thought it was a mouse, but I was shocked when she threw it at the bus. It was an egg and it splatted the window at the seat ahead of me !
Maybe it was halloween when somebody spraypainted crude pictures of genitalia on the street blacktop at a neighbor's house (girls there, who apparently didn't give him a tumble). It was a while before they washed or wore off.
