DaSassy In reply to MatrixPotato [2019-05-29 22:02:48 +0000 UTC]
We had a small farm lol We raised some meat birds, but I had a bunch of mixed breed laying hens/roosters given to me as day old chicks. I raised them as a kid and had quite a few generations. One of the hens from the original group lived for like ten years, my best mother hen <3
20 dogs? xD Well if we're counting pups, my first dog had a litter of 9 (11 but two stillborn). And Sassy had 8 ._. So... I think 10 was the most xD How did you have 20?
π: 0 β©: 1
MatrixPotato In reply to DaSassy [2019-05-29 22:13:09 +0000 UTC]
Awww thats so cute ;3; I would love to have that eventually. I just want to live on a big farm with all sorts of animals and junk lmao
YEP! Well we had our 2 dogs, then we had 10 foster dogs(some were very young, like 6 months-1 yr), and then we found a dog who had 7 puppies, so that's how we ended up with 20 dogs XD
yeah we are crazy crazy people 8')
oh and at that point i think we also had like 3 cats, a hamster, and a snake too o:

DaSassy In reply to MatrixPotato [2019-05-31 19:00:39 +0000 UTC]
I miss having tons of animals - then again I was a kid and wasn't doing all the work xD. Heck, keeping up with 5 cats can be difficult and I'm not in college yet!
My goodness xD That must have been crazy times! Lots and lots of poop to scoop! And I can only imagine the dog food bill xD
I had ducks though only one at a time. I fell in love with ducks when I raised a wild duckling from an egg. He later was eaten by feral cats :<

Haha true true. I wish I could make that my job, to just take care of animals. Ahhh if only
Lol well we had like almost 2 acres so it wasnβt all that bad! Plus we used to just power wash our deck and stuff lol
Awwww Ivd always wanted ducks! Theyβre so cute. But omg thatβs terrible :c poor guy

DaSassy In reply to MatrixPotato [2019-05-31 23:50:47 +0000 UTC]
We can dreeeeeeam
Lol, I'm sitting on about 6 acres atm. Most of it is bush reclaimed from the swamp though. I wish it was properly fenced all around as we could safely let our dogs just run. Instead they have an outside run since they don't behave on chains. Their mother, Sassy, was horrible when chained. She'd break chains/anchor points or just pull the tire (a makeshift anchor point we weighed it down with bricks) right down the driveway (or till she hit the grass lol) >.< When you felt her chest, man, she was ripped XD Yet she was a shorty, border collie/shep/etc mutt, and weighed at most 35-40 lbs.
Yeah, they are so cute, especially when imprinted :3 He'd follow me around just like 'peeppeeppeep' and I'd go hide somewhere and he'd be wandering around the house calling for me XD After he died, a friend, same one who gave me the chickens, gave me a meat duckling. She was my attack duck and she lived to be about 2.5 years, which is old for a meat duck XD She lived with the chickens and ruled the roost

oh wow can i come live with you LMAO
what a crazy dog tho o: mine does the same thing, she's husky/shepherd/wolf so any chain we try to put her on she just finds a way to break it or get it undone somehow XD
awwwwwwwwwwwwww how sweet<3 wow i didn't even know meat ducks had such a short lifespan D: but i guess it makes sense since they're for foods
π: 0 β©: 1
DaSassy In reply to MatrixPotato [2019-06-01 07:42:19 +0000 UTC]
Sassy would twist up the chain so much that she'd break the links, or the anchor. Hence the tire as she could run around the tire from that central point instead of a chain attached to a wall. Kinda of worked. She was just plain stubborn, she had husky in her too. I can't imagine having a wolf dog, I had a friend who apparently rescued them and she had a heck of a time keeping them from destorying stuff inside.
Yeah, same with pretty much any animal raised for meat. They are meant to grow really fast and bulk up, but that puts a strain on their organs. We once kept some kind of white chicken that was a meat type, but they had a tendency to get what was call "flip-over" disease or somethign like that. Basically, their body just can keep up with the demand and they (oddly) just keel over and you'll find them on their backs with their feet in the air. We stopped raising them shortly after that and moved to 'dual-purpose" breeds like Barred Rock. But, they weren't very good layers, as they often ate their eggs o.O My mutt chickens were the bestest chooks

MatrixPotato In reply to DaSassy [2019-06-01 17:28:50 +0000 UTC]
Omg lol yeah wolfdogs are incredibly difficult to train 8') but shes an old gal so she doesn't do much anymore.
Aw thats pretty sad D: I never knew that. poor guys
I noticed that my orpington and my leghorns are my most devoted layers, and the others are pretty good but definitely not the best lol

DaSassy In reply to MatrixPotato [2019-06-01 19:35:25 +0000 UTC]
Old doggos are the bestest
My best layer was I think a Silkie. She was so small and a complete poof of feathers <3 She was the one that out lived almost all my chooks. I have no idea what my other chickens were, mutts XD just chickens. Big ones, small ones, some as big as my head that liked to be cuddled.

MatrixPotato In reply to DaSassy [2019-06-02 02:02:07 +0000 UTC]
They really lmao
LMAO thats kinda cool tho. I think that could be said for most animals; mutts are always better than pure breeds imo XD

DaSassy In reply to MatrixPotato [2019-06-02 05:51:16 +0000 UTC]
In general, mutts tend to be healthy since it's not such a closed gene pool. My shepard mutt almost hit 16, which for his size was pretty good. He was bestest doggo, so was his mother <3 I love shepards, they're just so loyal. Lol my bf and I have agreed that a shep/lab mix is like the best mix XD

>W>
yusssss
so.Β
I had 15 chickens XDΒ
not sure which mathematical way to do this is ideal for you fren.Β
am loving them chibi style children, $5 a piece.
15x5 is obviously $75
however I see here extra characters are $1 each.Β
which is $20 but i feel like I would be jupping you big time.Β
so (thinking out loud here) what if I pay you $5 every other chicken and $1 for the "extras".
so 7x$5 + 6+$1 = 35+6= $41 and ill just tack on the hard work tax and make it an even-odd $45?

I mean honestly at this point since I'm reworking my comms, you can pay whatever amount you want, so if you wanna do $45 thats fine with me!

ya, she has such a funny personality, and Silkies actually make the craziest sounds, my grandparents had your average red chicken and the sounds are sooo different, when she is laying an egg she makes this purring sound and sometimes she make this like... raptor screech kinda lol, your chicken sounds very sweet though!
