Such joint bases build bridges between the nations and cultures of the UFP by providing safe routes for trade and becoming melting pots of different organizations and interest groups themselves. In this way, the Federation's presence is sometimes strongest in places furthest from well-developed homeworlds and long-standing interstellar civilizations. There where no-one settled and traded before, the Federation is directly involved in creating and growing infrastructure, allowing it to imprint its ideals into the very foundations of those new colonies.
