Do you use a hard brush or a soft brush for the first part? The coloring part?

I use a hard brush, but it doesn't really matter whether it is hard or soft. I would like to see what you come up with though if you do it (: It's a great way to start learning about different colors with horses. I don't do it this way any longer, I've grown from recreating the same image now, but its great practice for starting out.

Thank you so much! This helped me a lot. It's really well explained but... it's a bit hard to do. QAQ

Yeah, it takes a lot of time. Personally, I figured a great way to start out was using a picture to get a feel and learn how everything goes. I don't have to do it this way anymore, but that took a lot of time to get to that point. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and I'll see if I can explain it the best I can.

Haha I love when people accuse you of tracing. The both of us can draw horses without tracing. The difference is I trace anyways because I'm lazy and you don't because you're just that awesome. Gotta love the immature bitches that aren't as good as you and therefore accuse you of tracing even though you didn't. Lol!

OH GOD WHAT AM I DOING
I'm starting an Internet Argument nooooo ;_; I don't need this in my life
Augh OKAY LOOK if you're not tracing great, keep on rocking. If you're tracing and pretending you're not then you already know how sad that is.
Let's just pretend this NEVER HAPPENED.

Excuse me you know nothing of what I was doing because I infact did not do that. I took the colors from there, but I free sketched it first into my sketchbook with a pencil then scanned it into the computer then lined it, took the reference took the colors from the reference and used them on the image. Would you like to see my pencil sketch for me to prove it to you? Becuase I really honestly dislike having people come to me and accusing me of something I am not.
For the record there is nothing wrong with the fact of if I did trace it, as again I stated I did not trace it. Thank you and good day!

I don't mind you sounding snappy, it's a touchy subject and there's no easy way to raise it especially on the internet when we all sound worse than we mean to! For myself I'm sorry if I sound too harsh! I don't mean to be all ~dA POLICE~, honestly, hahah.
Anyway I was just going by the WIP pictures you posted which do look exactly like someone colouring in a photo to me, and by your words on the tutorial which don't contradict that. Really, this is a compliment to your drawing if your skills are such that your drawing is EXACTLY the same as the photo it's done from and someone thinks it's been traced XD I'd be pretty chuffed if someone thought that about my drawing. It just ... your painting looks exactly the same as the photo? I don't see any drawing? Is it just the tutorial that's making it look like that? I'm always delighted to be proven wrong in cases like these
For my part, I'm someone who has worked hard my whole life to be able to draw very well; I honestly dislike the fact that I am unable to tell whether someone has traced or not because people don't admit to it (I don't want to compliment people on something they haven't done, it's something that bothers me in HARPG at the moment). So yes, I do bring it up sometimes. In this case I honestly didn't think I was "accusing" you as such, because I didn't think you were hiding that you were tracing and you were just using different terminology for the practice. I hate it when people say "reference" when they mean "photo I traced" - it IS something that's done and it leaves me not knowing what to call it when I look at a photo while I'm drawing but don't trace! That's why I said something.
Incidentally, when you said "there is nothing wrong with the fact of it if I did trace it" ?? ... I'm sure if you did in fact draw this, you have no reason to feel defensive about tracing?

Well you see I am only learning this. Which is why I am pretty much coloring it exactly as the photo. Probably when I get better I will just draw a horse and take a totally different photo and take the colors from it. But as you see I'm only just starting out in doing realistic coloring and I don't do it that often, I've only done a few and others I've never finished. When coloring it exactly the same as the photo, it's getting me the idea of how it should look and go together, ya know?
I did draw it on paper though if ya wanna see. Heads actually am pretty good at, legs and hooves mostly...fail. If it had been full....fail. I'm not perfect yet. What I do is something I call gridding. It helps proportion it out. I print out my ref sheet and using a ruler draw grids, with each being 1" by 1" and then make the same template on a piece of paper. Then I just draw it on the paper, trying to get each grid square to look like the image next to it. Sounds like an easy cheating way, but honestly it doesn't always work :embarrassed: This time it did which is probably why it matches up the image so well. I don't always do this, actually I haven't in awhile but wanted to for this, I wanted it to look good. I usually just sketch out free hand without the grids, but yea.
Yea I get what you mean. Like for my me cousin, mom, and uncle are all really great drawings and I love art I want to be good like them. I've always drawn. Seriously you should see how my horses looked years ago from now xD I also know what you mean about the HARPG, I've heard rumors some of the best artists trace. I don't like people going nuts about it, whether one agrees with it or not, it's the person but that causes an uproar. I've heard a lot of people go on with this drama, and I never wanted that on myself, like so much stress why can't art just be fun?! ^-^; The reason for feeling defensive on tracing, is really because as I've said above, I've seen so many accusions ans so many people get frustrated about it I just start saying who cares if anyone traces just leave them alone and be them, do what you want and them what they want instead of biting one anothers heads off. That's really how I see it.

I'm sorry - I know I'm such an ass when it comes to art. Every time you get better with art I always ask you to make a tutorial for me. Sorry about that. But at least you know your awesomeness!
