Description Just some teens chillin' in the remote edges of the city. I used a toy car as a reference and tweaked/added a few things.

OCs: Sam (blonde dude), Shaun (dude on roof) and Timo (other dude)

From what I can tell, this piece has a nice composition. The use of color works out splendidly, with them being slightly faded as to give a sense of realism, but not to dull as to where it would prevent them from looking vibrant. The background has some great perspective on top of all the detail put into it, without distracting from the focal point of the image.

That said, there are two small issues that I notice. The shading on the car seems to have a different light source than the characters, and the forearms of the guitar-playing character look somewhat disproportionate to his upper arms.

In conclusion, this is a very well made piece. Fantastic work!

Thanks so much for your critique!

Someone else also pointed out an inconsistency with lighting. I intended for the light source to be on the right but looking at it again, I can see why this might not be clear. Will definitely keep this in mind for my next work.Β I appreciate the feedback!

Hello there! You have been visited by a Critique Ninja! We stealthily roam the site, looking to leave thoughtful and useful criticism, as per the spirit of CRITmas . Mind if I just hop on to business, then? Just swooping in and out again - that is the Ninja way...!

First things first: I think this is a very well-balanced composition, and your lines are all very crisp and clear! Your choice of colours is also good, and I appreciate how much attention went to the background, too.
I think I have but one or two things to remark, really, and that's that I feel that the car's tires aren't nearly as real-looking as the car itself (the volumes seem correct, but those are some VERY deep grooves for a family car, and those hub caps need some extra referencing, also), but also that the boy called Timo's face doe snot seem to match the style/size as the other character's. His features are closer to realism than the others, which I consider Anime/manga

That's all I have for you today! I hope it was of some use.

Have a great day and an even better New Year!

This is really cool, the car looks amazing, I love that you even put treads in the tires. I think most of the guys look pretty good, Shaun looks like he's floating a little there, or he's jumping over the car.Β

Either way I think this piece is really nice, the characters look great design wise, and that car is just fantastic.Β

Hello from

First of all...I ADORE the work you did on the background. As somebody who has difficulty with backgrounds, I am really impressed with the work you did. The same about the texture on the ground. It's the subtle details that show your talent. A lot of artist I know just glaze over that sort of thing. Now, you're OCs are well designed, but there are some things you can improved. The first thing I noticed was the guy in the hat (I'm assuming that's Tito) Now, Tito's hat doesn't seem to be on his head. It seems to be hovering behind his head. Usually when characters have wild hair or spiky hair, that wildness or spikiness tends to be subdued when you draw them with hats on. Tito's hair doesn't seem to be at all compressed by the hat. The hair would press it all down, and if there was a tuft of hair sticking out the front, it would be straight down, especially with the type of hat.

Another note is the guy on the roof (Shaun, right?). Now unless this is like chronicle, and the boys can all levitate, Shaun would be plummeting. Gravity is a harsh mistress in many walks of life, and art is one of those walks. Shaun's legs look to be in the process of flying off the car, and he doesn't look fazed. If Shaun is meant to be jumping off the car, have him face forward and give the guy at the bottom a reaction, like he's flinching because it looks like Shaun will land on him. If he's just meant to be sitting on the car, maybe it would be an idea to place him further back, just so we can see that there's some space between his legs and the edge of the roof. He's in a bit of an adventurous pose, and you've pulled it off well, but the hardest part is also interaction with the props and background.

Lastly, Sam is pretty much on point. I love the pose and you've done it really really well. I love the facial expression on each of them, and the colours are perfect for the tone you're trying to set ^^ You've got a lot of talent, and if you just iron out the little, easily missed details you're gonna be flawless ^^

Thanks so much for the feedback!
All your points make a lot of sense. I always attempt poses that are challenging for me and I guess I forget to consider things like gravity haha. Will keep that advice in mind for future works.
Your help is much appreciated!

Hey I'm from !
This is a really great piece, and I can tell a lot of effort went into it. What I adore the most is the composition and background. Backgrounds are something not many people seem to do (mostly because they're hard), but you really nailed it in my opinion. I like that the background is slightly faded so that the car and the ocs are still the main focus of the piece.Β

Just a few things to consider: the boy playing the guitar looks a bit stiff, especially where his legs are. I would suggest adjusting the leg on the left by lifting it up a bit. Since it's bent, there should be a bit more space between his leg and the car. The knee could go up a bit.Β
Another thing I noticed was that the perspective of the boy on the roof is a bit off. The leg laying under his other leg is a bit flat. Perspective is something that's a bit difficult. I'm still improving on it too so I'm not that experienced, but I do know of some techniques to draw perspective. I personally sketch the character in shapes first. If you sketch his thigh as a cylinder and draw it in perspective then that should help you with the perspective. In my opinion, it's much easier to see simple shapes in perspective than a leg in perspective. Some examples of using simple shapes for sketching it out first. Another way I've recently come across is something called the coil technique. (I've linked a video and it's pretty self-explanatory if you watch it xD) I haven't really tried this that much but it may or may not work for you. I'm sure there are plenty of other ways to draw perspective, so try to find something that works for you!Β

Other than these things, I think you drew the car really well (I love that you referenced a toy car). I'd love to see more of the sunny lighting they seem to be in, but I don't mind this subtle lighting either. You've captured a really calm and chill atmosphere that the characters fit right into. Fantastic work!

Thank you so much for your detailed feedback! Perspective and foreshortening have always frustrated me.
That video is awesome btw. I've never heard of the coil technique but I can see why it would helpful. I'll definitely be using that technique from now on.
Thanks again, I really appreciate the advice.

this is a really well-done piece. it is a full scene, which can be hard to drawn and keep interesting, yet you did it incredibly well. the characters all exist in their own spaces very well.Β
the only thing that seems a little off is the shading, one instance is on the hair of the blonde boy. the shading on the car contradicts his own shading, as the light on the car seems to come from the background in front of the car, while on the kids in comes from the foreground in the same area.Β
overall, this is an incredibly strong piece, and the only little quirks are barely noticeable.Β
keep making great art,Β

Thank you for your comment!
I have a question about the lighting, I hope you don't mind me asking. I intended for the light source to be on the right (in front of the car) rather than in the background, which is why the characters are highlighted on that side.
With this in mind, does the lighting make more sense? Or is the lighting still inconsistent? Also, what is it about the picture that makes it seem like the car is lit from the background and the kids are lit from the foreground as opposed to on the right?Β
It's something I'd really like to fix in future works so I appreciate any help I can get

the best example of this would be the shading on the front bumper near the right side of the car, it makes the source seem like it is behind this. other than that, this is a great piece and i encourage you to continue using your amazing talents.Β
