Description took me 'bout 3 hrs... I won't give any description 'cause I feel lazy now...the X at the bottom is the point I finished the drawing...
OK, now I feel like I can write the description!
Rheodonts are the most deadly predators of the Era! they are popular not for their great hunting skills, but for their constantly changing lifestyle. as newborns, they hunt in packs consisting of their brothers and sisters., and they're protected by their parents. soon after, the pack separates from the parents.they continue to hut in packs until they're too big for that.hunting in groups will get harder as they can't feed along with the whole pack.most of their lifetime is the period that comes after the separation and before mating.as they find their proper mate they live with them and hunt in pairs. after mating, they take care of their offspring for a very short time and then they will continue living separately for the rest of their life.
Rheodonts are very fast. they can run so fast that humans can't track them with their eyes.they are also capable of something called "ultra sound push". their feet will exceed the velocity of sound, making a shock wave that pushes them forward, but also takes a lot of energy.

Well, I'd love to if you'll give credit! My name is Sina Chiniforoush (Persian: سینا چینی فروش), but there's just a little thing I'm concerned about, these creatures are part of a pretty long story. I'm just concerned that if I ever have the chance to write it, well it will look like it's not original if some of its creatures are already seen , But since you'll give credit, I don't think there will be any problems. By the way, what is the book about? I'd love to know

Well, I was thinking individual stories about the creatures themselves. Like a collection of stories. I would come up with the setting and story, judging on the alien's looks, and then I'd okay it with you. If you would like to make any changes to the story, then, well...it IS your story. Hahaha.

well, that's okay...(by the way... all the creatures I've drawn so far are not... technically aliens )

They aren't? What are they then, with utmost respect?

They are creatures evolved from present creatures, in far future

yeah... but a bit less realistic though, surely there won't be 2 intellignt species at once in a planet (not counting humans )

Of course. So, what was the story about the creatures?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

M3rcaptan In reply to CharlesOwen [2012-06-27 19:54:12 +0000 UTC]

long story xD it's just that there's a catastrophe, humans leave the earth, and "hibernate" in a space station (BIG one, of course ) and when they get back, they find that their home planet is quite different than what they expected

The patterning is really amazing! I love their colours, and their whole design looks so cool!

However, biologically speaking, I think there might be a couple things that don't quite work. The tail looks really awesome, but I think the weight of it would almost overpower the weight of the head, and the creature would be bottom-heavy. Tails are used mainly for balance. Think of T-rex - he had a gigantic, stiff tail to offset his giant, heavy head, to be used as a balance when he was running. Since these guys run super fast, their tail would have to be perfectly balanced so they don't roll head over heels if they stumble!

It's a really neat idea to have them run incredibly fast, but there isn't a creature on Earth that can break the sound barrier. Even if they could, we would still be able to see them (although they'd be a blur) - think of a jet going supersonic: we can still follow it through the sky with our eyes even if we don't hear it 'til afterward. Plus, muscle tissue is unable to create enough force to push such a gigantic body at such speeds. There would need to be some intense chemical reaction (like the ignition of fuel) in order to make it semi-plausible. If that's a trait you'd really like to keep, I suggest making it a little more scientifically acceptable - perhaps make them run super fast (cheetah-like) and have a camoflauge/colour-change ability kick in to make them hard to see? (That would require chromatophores in the skin as well.)

The life history changes (the development of their hunting abilities) is really awesome. I can't think of any species now that does something similar, but I think it's certainly plausible.

These dudes are pretty cooool Those things I mentioned are just a few things to consider in developing biologically realistic species. I do have a few questions, just out of curiosity! Are they mammals, or do they hatch from eggs? What's their life span? What kind of skin covering to they have?

AWESOME. They're still pretty rad.

they lay eggs, I'm thinking about making them a new class of vertebrates (50 million years is enough, right?) they are possibly descendants of reptiles(Ressena is another example.). they lay eggs. There are called Trios, for the structure of their mouth (which opens in three directions. I was inspired by the structure of the snakes' mouth, maybe they're descendants of snakes, right?by the way, do snakes still have the genes for making feet, maybe I can reactivate them...) I didn't really think about the life span, but since they have a high chance of survival in their environment, they must either have a relatively short life span, or produce few offspring, or they'll be over-populated.Their skin covering... hm...kinda like reptiles but (although being still strong) a little bit more flexible.
I really didn't think about the tail, does lower density work, or there's a problem with their shape, too?and about the ultra-sound push, they don't really move ultra sound, I know it sounds kinda ridiculous, but for a very short moment, their feet reaches a speed high enough to condense the air, so that the air hits them back, giving them a high speed (I can't "talk with numbers" now, maybe later...) is that possible, or I must lower my expectations a bit more?

TheMeadiator In reply to M3rcaptan [2011-11-07 21:09:40 +0000 UTC]

That sounds perfectly reasonable.

Cool! Snakes are rad. Yeah, they probably have some leg genes somewhere in their make up, the same way you can reverse engineer a dinosaur out of a chicken. Just activate and supress a few hundred genes, and you got a mini-dino! I'm sure you could make snakes with legs. (In general interest, check out the amphisbaenia (worm lizards) - they're pretty awesome!)

Animals that are generally very big and endothermic usually have long life spans, so making them have fewer offspring would balance out their population and make them what ecologists call "k-strategists". Lower density in bones really isn't selective, and tails (at least in the larger reptiles and dinosaurs) are usually heavy and rigid. The shape is fine, maybe just make it a little shorter? Or thinner?

Hmm, I'm not too hot on my physics, but I'm pretty sure biological mechanisms can't move fast enough to create such an effect. You might be able to get away with it if you explain it thoroughly and convincingly!

I'll work on that. About the eaglan thingy, there's a lot to explain, I'll send you a note about them later. But there's also another creature I wanted your comment on: Macro-Viruses(see [link] and [link] ). I already know they're impossible, but can you think of a hypothetical way for them to evolve? And is there any creature like them in the real world? (I honestly don't think so)

Just saying

M3rcaptan In reply to frandom [2011-09-16 20:14:49 +0000 UTC]

um... you sure? it's one of the most popular irrational numbers, and square root of -1 is an imaginary number, not an irrational one...rational and irrational numbers are both real numbers, and square root of -1 is imaginary (opposed to real) see the Wikipedia article...[link] the fourth line!

Very original and I like that you thought through the specifics of the creature to such an extent. It's almost like you're playing God. The shading and skin markings add a lot of prehistoric verisimilitude, and the one hiding behind the rock was a nice touch.
