I suggest taking some paint thinner (which is also called mineral spirits) and using a q-tip dipped with the stuff to blend the colored parts to make it look smoother. (Make sure you have something under the picture.) I find that if you want the color to be darker, color over the treated area while it's still wet and then use the q-tip a second time.
