Description
I loved painting this one, but do think it's time to switch to a brighter colour palette! Have a lot of time for art these days, though not due to the happiest of circumstances; my only sentiment about what's happening here in Italy and the rest of the world right now is this: we can't reach 7.8 billion people on the planet without experiencing some kind of consequence, unfortunately. On the other hand, as saddening as the situation is, I believe that perhaps some good will come out of it. For example, we're finally pushing our differences aside; we didn't need an alien invasion to do that, after all!
Anyways, to change the subject -- the model for this piece is an Irish Sport Horse mare named Sandra (her stable name, at least). I've never ridden her, though she did leave an impression on me as she's quite spirited. I remember photographing her under a drizzle and was delighted when she turned around to look at me. Wanted to paint this ever since I took that photo two years ago, and finally got around to doing it.
Update 10/02/2021 Uploaded an improved version of the photo, much closer to the original work -- according to my memory, at least! It's now in a private collection.
Acrylics on 20 x 20 cm (8" x 8") box canvas.
