Description
Many merpeople dreamed of visiting the surface someday, but he was the opposite. It started as a curiosity, now a borderline obsession, with the deep. Sharks and orcas could be fended off, nobody knew how to deal with the things down there.

He swam deeper as the days went on. Down into the trenches. Saw and recorded creatures and monsters no one else had ever seen, perhaps bar only the rare surface machines which the pod avoided like death. He couldn't comprehend them -- these were animals, creatures like them. Fish. The next generation should be taught about them. He considered himself a researcher.

He first spotted them on a rock formation, crawling around like sea slugs. Little white cotton balls, dotted with black. Weird-looking, but cute. The ocean hid little guys like these all throughout herself, covering them with waves and torrents like layers and layers of blankets. Little secrets.

He was studying them, already formulating a report to the rest of the pod. But the ocean doesn't get lost, she has more secrets to share.

Started as an entry for 's merman competition (fav.me/ddnckb8 ) and ended with what I'm pretty sure is a new OC (assuming he's not dead)???
I haven't written creatively in one thousand years so it was a good practice at least haha
ps i am a bad marine biologist and sea bunnies are definitely not deep sea creatures (unless whatshisname's pod swims on dolphin levels) but I love them and I really wanted to draw them maybe they're fake bunnies that lure prey to cthulu over there I dunno man.
