Description Two of the most colourful pygmy owl species are inhabitants of the Congo Basin forests. The Sjostedt's Owlet (Glaucidium sjostedti) is one of the largest pygmy owls and is restricted to the dense primary forest.  The smaller Red-chested Owlet (Glaucidium tephronotum) is more widespread and also occurs in degraded, more open habitats.
