DA is filled to the brim with snobby bastards. It's like if your art isn't super realistic, it's not art. I'm so sick of groups that are called something like "AllArtSupport" but they constantly reject art that's clearly nothing wrong with it! Really pisses me off. Stop putting down people for no good reason.

It must be nice to be able to decide who's an art snob or not. Anyone who doesn't see it your way I guess.

*sigh*
It's an art site.
We put things that we feel are art on.
Why does everyone get so het up about it?
If you don't like something, then just don't freaking go on it!!
It's as simple as that!
Jeeeesus...
People just need to calm down, stop having a go at people's work, and do some themselves!!
Art is free expression; it can be whatever you like. traditional paint, photo manipulation, or a picture of someone stood butt naked in the middle of a field.
If at least one person thinks it's art, then it's art.
OK rant over ^^

Oh yeah I totally agree with you there.
But I don't like it when somebody is just nasty about someone's work.
Constructive criticism on how to improve work for instance.
That I can understand.
I just can't understand why some people are overly nasty when there is no cause for it.

Kind of reminds me of the realists with the academy system and what they thought of the impressionists work. I love your piece! I believe there are artists out there that have gone out of their way to find out what is art, I forget the artist but I know the piece had to do with a toilet he placed in an exhibit. Art is such a broad thing with so many mediums. There are many different ways to appreciate it whether for form, function, or meaning. Well I think I've found a new favorite!

I hate to say it, but some of your stuff lacks an artistic feel. Someone can tell the difference between nude art and porn.
Some of your deviations are just pictures of naked women. There's nothing artistic put into them. It feels like they just stripped and pushed the button on the camera.

Warbread In reply to Cyrviana [2008-08-04 08:33:09 +0000 UTC]
It has always been my gut feeling that paintings of cottages and flowers lack an artistic feel. How many deviations are "just" pictures of landscapes, brick walls or swirly colors generated by a computer program? Is it really that easy to say what art is or isn't, and does anyone really have the right to decide that for others? Artistic feel is a very subjective basis for categorization.
I like this submission. For that matter, I like nudity. I like nudity as art. If a picture of a naked man/woman is enough to evoke feeling, then what makes it so different from any other image found in art?

>> I hate to say it, but some of your stuff lacks an artistic feel. Someone can tell the difference between nude art and porn. <<
Or ... is it possible that it simply failed as art? That was kind of my point with this thing I was doing a couple of years back: if I make a crappy Naruto sketch, then it is just a crappy sketch; but if I make a crappy artistic nude, then is it porn? We are holding certain genres of art to a subtle but dangerous double standard.

I have noticed that there seem to be only one or two in your gallery that have been shown that way, and they're usually shower pics. I think that, since most people associate that sort of thing with porn, it lessens the artistic value, and people automatically discriminate against it.
This is an art site, darling. You're going to find people that are very critical.

Laurion In reply to Cyrviana [2008-06-26 13:23:34 +0000 UTC]
Those shower 'ics' were amazing. You see, they really aren't photos at all, but rather collages made of bits and pieces of rescued scraps out of the stock gallery ... stock photos that attracted a lot of negative comments cuz they were "too crappy" be stock. I did a lot of that as a wonky sort of hobby a few years ago, sort of learning photoshopping by taking really bad photos (too dark or light, out-of-focus, poorly cropped and composed) and trying to "rescue" them by creating something new out of them, in part because it was a challenge, and in part because I liked using stock that lots of people had said could never be used. A lot of the stuff in this gallery is just that sort of thing. But as for the shower collages, thousands of people just assumed that me or a friend just flung off the clothes and grabbed a camera ... and the fact that they wrote nasty notes in which they assumed these were composed photos and not photoshopped collages pleased me, since it meant the overall project succeeded!
Needless to say, most of the stuff I did back then and posted here is quite trivial, even silly. But I've gone on to use the skills I learned commercially, so I'm quite happy with the overall outcome of it all.
>> This is an art site, darling. You're going to find people that are very critical. <<
Indeed. And the stuff in my gallery that has attracted the most critique is invariably itself a critique of the culture of critique here on DA several years back.

I love this photo and its message. Some artists have too narrow an opinion of what constitutes art. That kind of snobbery, which stems from insecurity, blinds them to the value of others' work.

Some people-even talented artist-do not understand the real meaning of art, in it's many forms-they are lost to a narrow path. Do what you must-to maintain your own view, creativty, and format.

i think all art has a purpose and it doesnt matter if its good or bad, as long as their is room for improvement and everyone has their own style or thing they like to draw, and should not be punsished, flamed or looked down on. Tons of people draw really good unpopular art, and arent noticed until someone has the courage to stop being disrespectful and show their appreciation
im not sure if i agree with this or not but those are my thoughts...
