Most excellent. Let me know if you want some rusty tin. ( I've got a bumper crop. )

YES! I need rusty tin! Specifically, tin ceiling tiles. Might you have any of these? I am taking a course in metalworking in the fall--how to morph old rusted metal into birds--and we are asked to bring ceiling tiles. I have two 4x4 ceiling tiles on hand, but they are not exactly inspirational....This is a whole new world for me.

I love it. All those extra layers you have created, so that the eye is inclined to piece together a complete landscape!

After I figured out how to get materials to stick to the lamination of a playing card, there was no stopping the layering! Glad you enjoyed!

I could use a rusty shooting star right now. I enjoy the illusion of the spades melting. Magical.

If you squint, the "descend" can maybe be "transcend"? I leave that up to the viewer.

that the star is so big and so heavy takes feels weird.
maybe a sum of all the stars?

LauraTringaliHolmes In reply to partiallyHere [2011-05-27 16:57:11 +0000 UTC]

I was exploring the concept of inertia here, which is why I went with such a zaftig star. If you read the text as "descend," the star is propelled downward by gravity. If you read the text as "transcend," the star is bouncing, and the weight of the star will keep it in motion. Into a science head lately....

You did a great job in this one Laura! I agree with Seth, the rust adds so much to it I love your painting in your collages, it enriches them so they're not supported only by the found images or text.

The whole concept is lovely

LauraTringaliHolmes In reply to TeresaClark [2011-05-26 00:40:48 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, Scuba. The painting comes as a sort of afterthought, as a way to further the message. I have a nice box of really cheap paints, but I mix 'em with Golden glaze medium and...wow...good stuff. Glad you enjoyed.

I find the colors here to be appealing and the texture on the star has an allure, rust can be so cool. Great composition with the flow of icons and words.

Thanks. I had fun with the treeline, and also with the word ending...could be "descend" but could also be "transcend." A detail I was happy not to be in control of! Let imagination rein!
