I was wondering, how long does it take to make something like this? What sort of supplies are needed and how much do they cost?

It didn't cost me a lot, but that's because most of the materials I used were things I already had available (comes with having a lot of arts and crafts projects and getting into the habit of collecting every little titbit that looks like it might be made into something later). Time-wise, I think I made this over the course of a few days (it was a while ago, so I don't remember precisely).

As for stuff you'd need? Metallic paint, black primer, sandpaper, scissors/pliers/other cutting implements, wire, glue and whatever cool stuff you can find/buy to stick on the gun and make it look interesting.

Easily one of the best steampunk Nerfs I have seen. Fantastic!

My radio geek would have given you so much extra credit for putting a ferrite bar in the coil and adding a steampunk AM radio receiver.

Damn nice, either way. What paints did you use?

My thought process was more along the lines of "That would look cool there.". Still, glad you approve.

I used some metallic paint I grabbed from the local B&Q a while back. Although, all things considered, in the future I'm probably going to switch to spray paint, the coat will likely come out smoother.

There's also a black undercoat I applied using a permanent marker - paint would've been more professional, but the marker was there, easy to use, and did the job. *shrug*

I know this is more than a month late, but I actually like how we can see the brush strokes. Sort of gives it a brushed metal feel, though that probably isn't exactly what they mean by 'brushed' metal.
