Description Another wonderful stock artist. Which I found just browsing through DA.

Afterwork: First the flames in her eye. Which was really just a throw away shot. No big deal there, and it was easy. LOL. I say that today, last year, yes I've been here a year now. I had no clue. Anyway. More filters to create the flame effect the rough surface of her skin, and the motion. Eye Candy for the rough surface, Motion blur for the streak of the smoke, and a warming filter. For the overall orange color.

Brighid, The Celtic Goddess of Fire.

A patron of warfare or Briga. Her soldiers were called Brigands. Her name means "Exalted One."

In her earliest incarnation, as Breo-Saighit, she was called the Flame of Ireland, Fiery Arrow. She was a Goddess of the forge as well, reflecting on her fire aspect. Legend says that when She was born, a tower of flame reaching from the top of her head to the heavens. Her birth, which took place at sunrise, is rumored to have given the family house the appearance of being on fire.

For many centuries, there were 19 virgins (originally priestesses and later nuns) who tended Her eternal flame at Kildare. There they are said to have sung this song (until the 18th century):

"Bride, excellent woman, sudden flame, may the fiery, bright sun take us to the lasting kingdom."

These women were the virgin daughters of the Fire and were called Inghean au dagha; but, as fire-keepers, were Breochwidh. The Brudins, a place of magical cauldron and perpetual fires, disappeared when Christianity took hold. "Being in the Brudins" now means in the fairies. Brigid's shrine at Kildare was active into the 18th century. It was closed down by the monarchy. Originally cared for by nineteen virgins, when the Pagan Brighid was Sainted, the care of her shrine fell to Catholic nuns. The fire was extinguished once in the thirteenth century and was relit until Henry VIII of England set about supressing the monastaries. (8) Sister Mary Minchin, a Brigedian nun at Kildaire relit the flame on Febuary 2, 1996 and the intention is to keep it burning perpetually once again.

In an ancient Irish text Giraldus Cambrensis, she and nineteen of her nuns took turns in guarding a sacred fire which burned perpetually and was surrounded by a hedge within which no male might enter. According to the Irish Text "The Book of Dunn Cow," Brighid's sacred number was nineteen, representing the nineteen year cycle of the Celtic Great Year, the time it took from one new moon to the next to coincide with the Winter Solstice. It was believed though, that on the twentieth day of each cycle Brighid herself would tend the flame.

Don't you wish for that even just once in your life? To see fire in someone's eyes, for you.

I do.

She is very pretty and I love the history lesson... Though there are more accounts as to which Brigid was Sainted... There is another story of how ST. Brigid be came a saint.... She would not give herself to a certain man... who killed her in his rage... She rose from the dead before his eyes... Though I don't know how true the story is!

ohh I know the Saint story. The christian church couldn't stop Brigid's worshipers. They decided to incorporate her instead. LOL. She is a very well rounded goddess

Chuckles. Once a long long time ago, the mother goddesses of the world, had more followers. This day and age though I don't discount that. You should read some Incarnations of Immortality. By Piers Anthony. He creates archtypes for Death, War, Time, Earth, Fate, Satan, God. Wonderful novels.

I have heard of him... However... Once apon a time man was lost in his own arrogance and sin... Light came to the world but man knew only darkness. Man tried to destroy the light! Yet the light still shown... man still lives in darkness though some have found a the light... Which one are you?

I always have. The night hours have fascinated me as a child. I'd rather play under moonlight, than sunbeams. Even this nickname was created to pay homage to that desire. For the 'night' always seduces me.

Balance... when the Spirit, Soul, and Body are aligned... Ying and yang have nothing to do with it... sorry.. how can two parts deal with a three part person. I am still working on the balance though... it is a life long process.

ladynightseduction In reply to DarksainT1 [2006-01-01 14:42:11 +0000 UTC]

An eastern philosphy I suppose. Ying and Yang aren't meant to be anything more than the male and female sides of a person, which we all have. They don't count the balance in that or rather they do, but it's the point where the two aligned for form the whole.

Yeah I got that... but it goes even deeper. The white represensents good and the black evil. Saying that all good has some evil in it and all evil has some good... And that is not true.

ladynightseduction In reply to DarksainT1 [2006-01-02 16:57:27 +0000 UTC]

mmh. I knew the white/good evil/black thing. Though I'm not sure that interuptation is correct. I've always thought it was a matter of perception. In that you see good in some things people might consider evil, and the reverse is also true.

May be... but true good and evil never combine. Yes they ballance but can never combine. They are total opposites!
