Description *I plan to ink this and color it sometime in the future*
*I wanted to practice drawing cartoon-like dogs/puppies*

~~*ABOUT ALEU, MY SIBERIAN HUSKY CHARACTER*~~
*She is one of my oldest characters!
*Full name: Aleu
*Aleu is based on a character childhood game me and
two of my friends use to play. We used dog stuffed
animals.
*She is grey and white with blue eyes.
*She starts out at 2 months old then all the way till she is 4
years old (at least thats an estimate on how long the
story is so far)
*She lives above a petshop named "Puppyville" that her
owner and her owner's two friends own. She lives
there with her mate, pups, and the other pets of
her owner's friends. (Sorry this might have been a bit
confusing to read! )
*She had siblings but some died in a fired while others
were bought by other people
*She had 5 other siblings (not gonna go into detail since
they are not in the story)
*She is parpure Husky
*She is adventurous as a young dog. She has lots of
courage and likes to try new things. She can be
stubborn but kind hearted. As a mother she is
protective and responsible and has sort of settled
down from her energetic youth.
*Like all her pups and mate she wears a braided
wrist band around her left paw (sort of like
idetification). Her colors are blue, darker blue, and
white.

(This is what I have so far, still working on her character)

Balto isn't actually Disney...it is similar but was actually animated by Spielberg's Amblimation (sort of a precursor to DreamWorks, before Computer Animation)

But It's hard to say what is a true disney style when it comes to dogs and wolves as animators change styles or new animators take over from film to film. But from looking at 101 Dalmations, The Fox and the Hound and, Cinderella's dog Bruno it looks like Disney's dog style has less angular eyes, and they are not as deep set.

That being said though, that's actually a great thing... When people look at your dogs they will not automatically think of a disney dog and look at YOUR dog.

Another point of interest though is that though Aleu is an AWESOME name, in the film Balto II Wolf Quest, Balto's daughter was named Aleu (she was 1/4 Wolf and 3/4 Husky)... Its nothing big but I just wanted you to know in case you do write and illustrated a story about a set of huskies, you may run into legal issues if you ever decide publish it. People might feel that the characters would be too similar...from your description they are different but the main idea would be similar.

Sorry for the long post...I'm bored between classes...

Thats how all artists develop their styles, through inspiration from other's techniques.

Thats not true at all. A name cannot be copyrighted. Plus I think she knows what she is doing, this is her major, she wants to do art as a career. :/ But no, you cannot copyright a name. If that were the case then we would run out of names for characters in films?? Also Balto is an old movie, I don't think many people would even remember it, much less the names from the less popular sequel. Plus I know people who have done the Disney and Dreamworks style and it's bveen a good thing because they ended up getting into those companies after college. Also realize Katie is still developing her style, as illustrating is not her strongest point like real life drawing and photography, she is still developing her style as an illustrator which can sometimes take years. That is how you develop a style, you learn from your inspirations. Besides, how many styles of animal cartoons are there? Not many.

I know Balto isn't Disny. I just meant the stlye of the eyes. I'm trying to get the eyes somewhat Disney but not entirely.

I know about Aleu from Balto, hence the reason I took that name to give it to my husky. I just thought it was a pretty name!

I probably don't plan to publish anything. I'm just doing this story for fun. Maybe one day I'll eventually make panles, like in a graphic novel and post em on DA, but that isn't gonna be for a while.

If someone does have a REAL problem with my name, Ill just change it (Ill be sad tho since I've had this name for this characters since I was like 9 ). I hardly doubt tho I'll get in trouble because the only thing my Aleu shares is the name and the fact she a a 4 legged furry friend that barks . I really don't think people will get upset if its just a name similarity, cause no one person can copywrite a real name. If they get upset cause that they have the same name and they're both dogs then that would be pretty dumb too... Beacuse who is to say I cant hava a dog with a similar name, and who isn't even like the Aleu from Balto in really any way.

Now If I were to have copied her from Balto and altered her slightly, like say her eye color and fur color, then I can see how I could get in trouble.

The storyline to with her is SO much different too... like WAY different... so thats another reason why I don't think anything of me getting into legal issues.
