I think this is quite close to the original writers description. But the description is so slim and vague that you cant be sure, well maybe thats one of the reasons hes such a great character that you can get in to.

Well it is a classic story telling method in books and games. Make character really vague in description or generic looking, and let the reader/player fill in the blanks.
I always imagined Artyom to be very like me when I played. I knew he had darker hair, while I am naturally blond.
